Deadpool

Remember how Ryan Reynolds always wanted to play Deadpool? Looks like he’s getting his wish.

As reported on AICN Monday, Variety confirmed that Ryan Reynolds has joined the cast of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. They also mention that Taylor Kitsch will play Gambit, and will.i.am from The Black Eyed Peas will play … someone Wraith. The Blob is rumored to be appearing in the film as well.

They join Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), Liev Schreiber (Sabretooth), Danny Huston (William Stryker) and Lynn Collins (Silver Fox) in the film, which is set to open May 1, 2009.

I’m the best at what I do, and what I do is… who the hell are all you people? How’d you get into my movie?!…… (but yeah Gambit!!)

  2. Pj Says:

Just to clear up the rumor before it gets out of control, I am NOT playing Maverick in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. I don’t know how these things get started.

    ;)

The cast list of this thing is… odd, to say the least. Good, but odd.

But Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool is most assuredly awesome.

Updated the post with will.i.am’s role …

I’m not entirely clear on how you’d fit Deadpool into a theoretically serious Wolverine film- he’s basically the Ambush Bug of the MU- but I’m willing to see them try.

  6. Adrian Says:

Liev Shrieber seems to be an odd choice for Sabretooth.

In re Deadpool being Wolverine Film: Isn’t DP a Weapon X guy? Granted, I’m not much of an X-history buff but I thought his disfigurment came from a Weapon X experiment that cured his cancer. That would be the obvious tie-in to Wolverine.

In re Will.I.Am-if Wolverine kills Wraith, does that mean we won’t have to suffer another Black Eyed Peas album? I’m hoping for yes.

  8. Joe Lawler Says:

Yeah, but that would clear Fergie up for more solo albums, which are somehow worse.

  9. Shaun Says:

I’m not sure why Deadpool or Gambit are needed in a Wolverine movie. Then again, I’m not terribly familiar with Deadpool so I don’t really know. Gambit though? Ugh. Didn’t miss him in the X-Men movies, and I don’t need him here. That said, if anyone’s playing Gambit it should be Josh (”Sawyer”) Holloway.

A Wolverine origin film, if done correctly and rated R, is a great idea. But really, I wish they’d just X4, get a good director this time, and undo the damage done in X3. Maybe bring back Singer (keeping him far, far away from Superman), or else find some new blood to take over. Just not Ratner.
