Sneak peek: ‘Optical Allusions’

Science and cartooning whiz Jay Hosler, he of Clan Apis and The Sandwalk Adventures fame, has a new book out. It’s titled Optical Allusions and follows the adventures of Wrinkles, the anthropomorphic brain as he takes a fantastic adventure and, in the process, learns about not only how our eyes work, but also about the power of natural selection and evolution.

If it sounds like the sort of didactic “edutainment” videos they used to foist upon us back in elementary school, rest assured that Allusions is the sort of charming, hilarious that readers of Hosler’s work have come to expect. Luckily, Hosler gave me permission to post the first few pages from the book here so the uninitiated have a chance to see for themselves.

The book apparently won’t be available through Diamond, but you can order copies here.

Just a note to say that book distributor Brodart is in the process of adding Optical Allusions to its database, so libraries will soon be able to order it from them. I know that Active Synapse does deal directly as a wholesaler to several other book distributors as well, so the book may be more generally available to bookstores and libraries than this post indicates. Not for general comics fans, no, but for retailers other than direct market and for libraries.
