USA Today has a short article on the upcoming Wolverine film, along with a new picture. Hugh Jackman talks about going claws out with the character:
“I know it seems odd given, you know, the guy is already half animal,” says Hugh Jackman, who revives the character in Wolverine, due in theaters May 1, 2009. “But with all the success of the X-Men, you feel the pressure to keep pushing it further.”
Jackman, also a producer on the film, says he never expected the story of mutants trying to fit in “to catch on the way it did.” (Since the first film hit screens in 2000, the X-Men franchise has taken in more than $1.1 billion worldwide.) “But I became a fan of Wolverine like everyone else. That’s why I keep holding on to the character.”

I thought his claws from between his fingers.
February 14th, 2008 at 7:50 am
Yeah. In the movies, they snikt out from between his fingers, but the skin rips up to just above his knuckles, as seen in the pic.
Far better than the curly claws in the comics, that seem to plonk out from behind his knuckles and curl over his fingers.
In other news: NEEDS MOAR BRAN LOL

I glad the movie is moving forward, but this pic has one of my pet peeves with of Wolverine, when his claws are visibly longer than his forearms, just bugs me

Hmmm, that is the furthest I’ve seen them go up the back of his hands, though.
Who says nerds are anal?
February 14th, 2008 at 9:47 am
I usuually don’t complain about things like this but the claws do seem to be a bit long don’t they?
February 14th, 2008 at 11:08 am
Hugh Jackman owes his movie career to the fact that Mission Impossible 2 took to long to film!
He should send John Woo a thank you card.
February 14th, 2008 at 11:30 am
LOL I couldn’t agree with you more, Marcei.
Make that both John Woo & Dougray Scott.
February 14th, 2008 at 11:55 am
Leave Dougray Scott outta this. HE was fantastic in that movie!!
February 14th, 2008 at 12:28 pm
Personally I’ve always thought his claws in the films weren’t long enough – part of the problem though is that in the comics he has much larger hands relative to his body so the claws are further apart and so don’t look quite as odd.

Hey JDB,
I don’t think Sweeny was making fun of Dougray Scott, just stating the fact that Scott was originally cast as Wolverine in X-Men, but had to bow out because MI:2 ran over schedule and they had to recast. No one is doubting the talents of either man, just the fact that Jackman does owe his career to X-Men and the fact that Scott bailed. I think Scott is a great actor, but it is ironic to see where his career has gone since.
February 14th, 2008 at 1:09 pm
Jackman would be just as successful now without the Wolverine role. He was heading to Hollywood’s limelight with or without Dougray Scott’s help.
Should Harrison Ford owe Tom Selleck for turniing down Indiana Jones? No, because re-casting happens in just about every single film made.
February 14th, 2008 at 1:14 pm
Yeah, but Harrison Ford was well known before Indiana Jones. And he could have gone the way of all the others in Star Wars. Who, besides the theater crowd, knew who Jackman was before X-Men?
February 14th, 2008 at 1:37 pm
Yeah, that’s why I emphasized “movie career”. Not every actor who has a known stage career means that will translate to films (and vice versa).

Great photo, looks dark and menacing. He’s in great chape too. Jackman is a smart man. Not everyone has the guts to take a breakout role and push on with that role into a solo movie. I know Jackman has been very busy in the Hollywood film industry, but him becoming the producer on this film is a bold move that will most certainly produce plenty of rewards for him.

I wonder if William Hurt and Hillary Swank will appear in THIS film.

My what big claws you have.
Are the other Weapon X characters making an appearance? Deadpool, Omega Red, Sabretooth, Maverick, and Silver Fox???
February 15th, 2008 at 1:02 pm
Love Wolverine, looking forward to this movie! I can’t believe the X-Men films have made over a billion $ so far. Just amazing.
Make some more X-Men movies, dammit!
February 15th, 2008 at 3:54 pm
is it me, or do those claws look THICKER than the X-Movie ones?
since this is a prequel, could this be a nod to the BONE CLAWS??
February 17th, 2008 at 5:35 pm
Decent looking pic.. Jackman does look ripped up which is good. The Claws are slightly too long, but no matter,… b/c if this movie is as sloppily edited, poorly planned, or just plain stupidly written as X-Men 3 The Last Stand was, it’ll suck no matter what! Here’s hoping considering they’ve got 15-17 months advance on the release date.. they take the time to make this good & not the butt blasting crap fest that was X3… alas, Bryan Singer we miss thee — especially when we get Brett Ratner & your Superman still wasn’t good. Your X-Men Would’ve been much better, I know.
February 25th, 2008 at 12:42 am
I don’t know why Colossus and Juggernaut didn’t fight head to head in X-Men 3. That would’ve been the best. Two strong mutants fighting.
I just hope this Woverine movie would not hope back on action. Today’s action movies lack too much of acion. Need more action please.
February 25th, 2008 at 12:44 am
I just hope this Woverine movie would not hold back on action.

He’s still got the Canadian rage! Neat.
Bye the way, I saw Mission Impossible 2 with my folks. It sucked.

I don’t know why Hollywodd’s making a Wolverine, solo movie, there were 3 already made. X-Men, X2 and X-Men United were all Wolverine-dominated plotlines. He was the “star” in all of them. Why give him a solo? Probably the same reason he makes a guest appearance in almost every last marvel title on the market. I’m really surprised he wasn’t also behind, Secret War, CIVIL WAR and/or House of M (but wait…he was sort of the focal point in that plotline as well). I’m sure if we looked hard enough, it was actually Wolverine who was behind DC Comics’ Superboy, reality, fabric punching debacle. Wow…forget about Hillary, Obama or McCain becoming our next President. It’ll probably be…Wolverine.
