Stephane Peru passes away

February 12th, 2008
Author JK Parkin

It’s been a bad week for the comics world. Nathan Cosby, assistant editor for Marvel, announces that colorist Stephane Peru passed away:

He was a great guy, a true gentleman. Whenever I talked to him, he was always enthusiastic, always sunny in his disposition. An email with Incredible Hercules colors was always opened immediately, to see what amazing ideas he’d come up with.

He felt blessed to be doing a job he was passionate about, and his attitude was contagious. I felt blessed to know him briefly. He made the things we gave him better.

I miss him.

Peru’s work graced many recent comics, not the least of which was the beautiful first issue of Teen Titans Year One, as well as Ultimate X-Men, Incredible Hercules and the upcoming Young X-Men. He also worked for several European publishers like Soleil, Delcourt and Semic, among others. According to his MySpace page, the French colorist was 26 years old.
