Wow. Bond with a gun. Sorry, a Big Gun. What a tease.
Hopefully this movie will end a lot better than Casino Royale did.

Casino Royale was so horrible, I dont even consider it a Bond movie. I cant believe they are making abother film with this guy, let alone that its an instant sequel that begins immediately after the last film ended.

You guys kill me.

CASINO ROYALE was easily my favorite movie of 2006. I was one of the many Bond fans skeptical of Daniel Craig at first, especially after four Pierce Brosnan films, but Craig’s intense, coldly professional performance won me over.
And since CASINO ROYALE took in over $594 million worldwide, $167 million U.S. domestic, it seems I’m obviously not alone in that sentiment.

Casino Royale was so good I question the Bond films before it. This guy is the best Bond since Connery AND HE’S BLOND!! Please keep these coming.

Loved Casino Royale…so I’ll be sure to see this…never like Bond much until CR.

One of the reasons why I think CASINO ROYALE clicked with so many people was because of its take on Bond. The Pierce Brosnan movies were an attempt at ‘modernizing’ the Bond franchise, but CR was an attempt at modernizing the whole concept of a British spy. Craig played Bond as he would be in today’s much harsher, more complicated political climate. As much as I love the other Bond films, I was very impressed by what Craig and the filmmakers did with CR and look forward to the sequel.
It also helped that Craig played Bond as the much colder, more calculating killer he is in the novels. He was more believable and less of a caricature. And really, other than a few tweaks, CASINO ROYALE was actually one of the more faithful book adaptions.

Howso?

First Bucky with a gun and now James Bond? I tell you, nothing is sacred!!
I am also among the big fans of Casino Royale, which did for 007 what Batman Begins did for Batman. But I am a bit dubious of a direct sequel. The Bond films worked in part because you could see them in any order. I saw them that way, and never felt like I needed to see any other film to get the one I was seeing.
That said, I suspect that this film – its weird title aside – is going to go a long way towards nudging the series away from the slightly more realistic plot of CR and towards the rebirth of SPECTRE. That might be interesting. Or it might be painfully tacky. But it will be worth watching either way.

Yeah, before Casino Royale all the bond movies for the past ten years were just the same template over and over again, so these give something new to the character. They’re well played and paced and you actually care about the hero a lot more and what he’s going to go through in the process. I think it’s a great film and returning characters and more of an interlocking story and mythology would be a good idea for Bond.

Casino Royale was easily the best Bond film to date. Can’t wait for the next one.

I’m sorry to burst your collective bubble but “Casino Royale” is a good Jason Bourne movie, but not even a mediocre Bond. In fact Craig himself admits as much in the “behind the scenes” fluff piece on the dvd. He says “You have to just forget it’s Bond. We’re making the best action film we can”. So even he admits it’s not Bond. I’ll be glad if/when James Bond returns to the screen though. As for this poster it’s as uninspiring as the poster for the Wayans’ “Little Man”.

Sorry, but CR was the most-Bond of any Bond film. It was so much more in touch with the novels than almost any other Bond film. Connery was close to Bond in the books, but he was never as ruthless, and Craig nails the ruthlessness of the character.
I love almost all of the Bond movies – I can even deal with the Brosnan and Dalton ones – but Casino Royale was by far the best of the film series.
February 9th, 2008 at 1:25 am
Again, even Craig admits it’s not Bond. I don’t think anything else need be said. You can love the non-Bond all you want. Eventually James Bond will come back.
February 11th, 2008 at 1:09 am
Craig said you shouldn’t think of it as a Bond movie because with the sole exception of Goldeneye, the James Bond name has meant “this movie is absolutely goddamn atrocious” for the past two decades.
February 13th, 2008 at 4:53 am
You know, I don’t actually think QoS is the first “direct sequel” in Bond movie history. Diamonds are Forever began with Bond tracking down Blofeld after the events of On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. While they never actually mentioned his wife Tracy, it’s implied he had revenge on his mind then too.
Also, the pre-credits Live and Let Die showed Bond mourning Tracy, right before a final showdown with Blofeld.
So even in original series Bond movies, there is some “continuity.”
And by the way, I thought Casino Royale was ace. Beautifully acted, tightly directed, and much more plausible without becoming dry. The best Bond movie since From Russia With Love.
February 13th, 2008 at 4:56 am
Sorry, I meant “the pre-credits sequence of For Your Eyes Only.” I don’t know why I said Live and Let Die (or left out the word “sequence”).

I’m in it for the SPEEDOs. Here’s hoping they return!
