Since the new Trek movie’s dealing with Capt. Pike as well, the whole thing could be a prolonged method of bringing him back for future movies/tv.

Y’know, a little old-school asskickery in the modern continuity.

Plus, I’m all over the new Ambush Bug.

First off, I’m reluctant to criticize Trek message-boarders, because I used to be one….

Second, I don’t think a lot of Trek fans see the new movie as “Ultimate,” at least not in the sense that it can coexist with the original episodes. Instead, I think Trek ’08 is seen as more like the Byrne Superman, wiping away whatever stories don’t fit its intended purpose. However, with Trek the rewriting is even more pronounced, because until now there hasn’t been any “challenge” to the “canonical integrity” of the original series. Kirk was always Kirk, the Enterprise always looked the same, etc. Comics fans are more used to alternate versions, I expect.

As for Ambush Bug, I’d be surprised if we don’t see a paperback coming out in June or so.

As a comics fan, I was aghast at a message board I read where fans were going nuts about the Enterprise-built-on-Earth thing, letting alone trying to figure how young Kirk, Spock, and etc. fit into “Star Trek continuity.” Comics fans get a little nutty sometimes, but we swallowed the “Ultimate universe” pill a little while ago; it’ll be interesting to see how it affects the Trek-verse when they do the same.

I hope DC will see fit to reprint all of both mini-series, the couple of specials and the appearances in Action, Supergirl and the Substitute Legion Special in an Essential volume if not in a large color TPB.

It’s Great Stuff that deserves to be seen by today’s readers.

Major Bummer was fantastic. And for some reason it never touched the mainline DCU in any way, shape or form. I’d highly recommend it if for nothing else, the beautiful art.

The recent Captain Carrot revisit was a dismal failure, IMHO.

I can’t be more excited about Ambush Bug’s return.

Young Heroes in Love was an excellent book. I’d definitely go for a trade.

Oddly though, I’ve never read any of the Ambush Bug stuff…
