David Bruce Banner transforms into the Hulk

Kenneth Johnson, writer and director of The Incredible Hulk, posts Kevin Koster’s list of every reason David Bruce Banner transformed into the Hulk in the classic TV series.

My favorites, I think, are Nos. 8 (”Being mauled by a bear”), 19 (”Being pushed down a mountainside by a bigfoot impersonator”) and 20 (”Dealing with a pesky operator in a phone booth”).

  1. Skyhawk Says:

Seems like a few sessions of anger management was all he needed.

  2. CloverCoyle Says:

Forgot #118: realizing he was in another formulaic Kenneth Johnson script.

  3. ComicMom Says:

“Being forced to land a 747 without any training or instructions or help, at the
risk of his, the Hulk’s, and everybody else on the plane’s lives”

Wait, so Hulk was better able to LAND A PLANE than Banner?

My favorite was when a bunch of rednecks beat him up, tied him to the back of their boat, and used him as alligator bait.

I’m not endorsing doing this to anyone for real, nor do I like rednecks, but looking back on that show it does amuse to think of how Banner always went looking for trouble. And what a wuss Banner was when he wasn’t Hulk.

  5. CloverCoyle Says:

Shaun: also, how Banner Never took responsibility for the Hulk’s actions. sure, he beat up bad guys, but he caused plenty of property damage as well.

  6. Jason McNamara Says:

    Thank you for this.

  7. Ed Says:

That one quoted in the AV Club article (with the clay pots falling on him, his pants catching on fire, etc.) reminds me of O.J. Simpson’s first scene in the first “Naked Gun” movie.
Also, I know it’s not exactly original to make fun of how scaled-down a threat the TV Hulk was from his comic book inspiration, but it still makes me laugh: “He knocked over a bunch of paint cans and RUINED the garage floor! It was horrible! *sob*”
