Marvel continues the slow roll-out of images from the Iron Man movie, which opens May 2. For some reason, this shot reminds me of RoboCop.

Is it just me, or does the face of the Iron Man armor actually kind of look like Robert Downey Jr.? And was he actually in the armor when they filmed it?

That’s a computer image, right? The only problem is that it looks more like plastic than metal.

Still cool regardless.

Strange that the next Hulk movie is in a virtual “media blackout” mode. I like the steady trickle of Iron Man news….but not a peep about the Hulk. No “peek-a-boo” images of the Hulk himself, or barely any of the live action shots (just Ed Norton wearing a wife beater as far as I can remember).

Iron Man started production much earlier than Hulk so it probably doesnt have as much to show, and perhaps they focusing mostly on Iron Man for now since there is a few months space between the two premiering

Alex:
As far as I know, that’s actually a suit built by special fx guru Stan Winston. And it’s actually RDJ in the suit.
Mark:
There have been a few images for the Hulk movie (other than the wife beater), but I think they’re going to save the payoff (the actual Hulk) for the official trailer or maybe for the actual movie.
Pete:
Yes, it DOES look like RDJ. It’s creep and cool at the same time. I’m very pumped for this movie!

the armor looks great, looking forward to the movie!!!

Everytime I see a new picture of the armor I like it less and less. This will sound silly, but I think it looks too robotic and not heroic enough. It looks like a worker robot or something, not a super-hero suit.
As for the Hulk; I think Marvel felt that the early shots of the incomplete CGI Hulk hurt the movie’s grosses so they are holding off this time. Thats just my guess.

I agree with the “plastic” look. It definitely needs more shine. Looks fantastic, though.
January 24th, 2008 at 2:36 pm
It does look plastic, but remember that this is just a promotional shot. That can easily be taken care of in post-production.
January 24th, 2008 at 8:14 pm
That is one unfortunate stain on the crotch of that armour.

If it is a suit RDJ is wearing onset it will undoubtedley be plastic – there’s no way a man could wear a heavy metal suit like that and move effectively with some serious;y advanced technology far beyond the budget and point of shooting a movie. It’s plastic and then will be touched up in post production to give a metallic shine while still allowing RDJ to, y’know, survive the shoot.

Stillis unbelievable to me that we are getting a comic book hero translated that literally to the big screen. I’d argue it’s the most accurate suit ever (maybe the 80s Superman)
It’s just jaw-dropping to me.
January 26th, 2008 at 3:05 am
Yeah that’s the actual armor without the post production on it. It’s modeled after the current armor. Adi Gravoski (sp?) that’s in the new books. Adi is doing concept art and things for the film so it’s going to be VERY on model for the comics.
Also Iron Man/Tony Stark/Robert Downey Jr will be making an appearance in the Hulk movie (CROSSOVER!) but people are mum about what role Stark will have. He has a brief scene with General Ross. and I’m told it’s in armor.
This will be something very cool.

I think the armor looks great. Iron Man is in kind of that strong second tier of characters, like Captain America, Flash, and Green Lantern. I really pumped about IM and Batman and really can’t say which one will be better. They’re both going to be awesome.

With this release of Iron Man and the re-release of the HULK, I think what we’re seeing are the initial steps MARVEL is taking towards bringing the AVENGERS to the big screen. Next year, we’ll probably hear that MARVEL’s planning a THOR, then ANTMAN/WASP movie for 2010/2011. Somewhere along the same timeline, Captain America will also be making his big screen debut.
Just watch…it’s coming. MARVEL is kicking SO much movie @$$, that it isn’t even funny. They are definitely on the right track. Now…if only DC would finally get Green Lantern off the ground, the FLASH and a Superman Begins (again) movie, they might have a chance to get into other characters into the mix, before hero movies become a things of the past.
