Secret Headquarters in Los Angeles

Los Angeles comic store Secret Headquarters receives high praise from The Guardian’s Sean Dodson, who includes it on his list of favorite bookstoresin the world:

A mere profiterole to the fabulous layer cakes of Porto and Buenos Aires, but the Secret Headquarters more than holds its own. Nestled in the creative cluster of Silver Lake, just east of Hollywood, this boutique store offers a sophisticated alternative to most of its rivals and has a reputation for being one of the neatest, friendliest comic stores anywhere. US science fiction author Cory Doctorow rates it as the finest in the world.

  1. JK Parkin Says:

My non-comic reading wife, who has been in countless comic shops since we started dating, said Secret Headquarters was the nicest comic shop she’d ever been in. She was impressed with the decor, like the wooden bins on the walls holding new comics.

  2. The Dude Says:

I love SHQ. Dave & Dave run a great shop. And they have kick ass tshirts.

  3. Spencer Carnage Says:

Secret Headquarters is a great store, only surpassed by Earth 2.

  4. AdamYJ Says:

It does look rather cozy, actually. More like a regular bookstore than a comic book store.

  5. Apodaca Says:

I like Secret Headquarters, but it’s an uncomfortable shop. All hard surfaces with two stiff chairs. It reminds me of a rich person’s house, where everything looks great, but you don’t feel right touching it.
