Classes resume after ‘death notebook’ incident

January 3rd, 2008

Students returned Wednesday to Stacy Middle School in Milford, Mass., after a holiday break that began the day two classmates were arrested after allegedly creating a “death notebook” that contained 33 names.

The 13-year-old girl and 12-year-old boy are charged with multiple counts of threatening to commit a crime and one count each of disrupting a school assembly. A pretrial conference is set for Jan. 22. They apparently were inspired by the hit manga Death Note, which centers around a high school student who sets out to rid the world of evil using a supernatural notebook that kills anyone whose name is written in it.

On Wednesday, three uniformed officers patrolled the school’s halls, and the principal prepared a “script” for faculty to reassure students about safety.

Eventually we’re just going to abolish the concept of school altogether and feed digital information to children in iso-tanks.
