It seems much “brighter” than the first one. First impressions lead me to think that this one won’t be quite as good.
December 20th, 2007 at 3:31 pm
Looks great, 2008 is going to be an amazing year for movies. One question though, as I haven’t read all the Hellboy stories. Is the guy with the eyeballs in his wings straight from the comics? He looks like he stepped out of Pan’s Labyrinth.
December 20th, 2007 at 3:50 pm
Looks great to me! Some awesome looking fight scenes.
December 20th, 2007 at 3:50 pm
Looks very cool. Love all the creatures, both good and bad, this one appears to sport.
December 20th, 2007 at 4:02 pm
Oh wow. I have the feeling I’m not going to like this at all.
The lighting and the big explosions. And the fairies don’t seem to be anything out of Mignola’s head.
December 20th, 2007 at 4:13 pm
If you don’t like this movie, you’re a terrorist who hates freedom. That’s all there is to it.
Though I am curious–did anyone give Del Toro a few “Stargate Atlantis” DVD sets before he started character designs? The bad guys look very similar to Wraith…
December 20th, 2007 at 5:00 pm
All of the questions asked have been answered before, and are probably still available for anyone willing to try and look for them.
Basically Mignola stepped back and let Del’Toro work with his creation on his own, stating that the movies/comics/cartoons are three seperate universes and not adaptations of the comic, they are all loosly based on the comic. Mignola was blown away by what Del’Toro was doing with Pan’s and felt very confident after seeing the movie. So yes, a lot of Pan’s type stuff will be in the movie, but not because Del’Toro couldn’t think of anything better, but because this is a whole new direction, one that involves the fantasy side of Hellboy a lot more, which if you’ve been reading the books lately is playing a big role!
I love it when people bash a movie because of the teaser, thats awesome, I love people, and their intellegence. I like to review movies…not trailers, just wanted to spread some knowledge.
December 20th, 2007 at 5:48 pm
Very nice.
December 20th, 2007 at 5:53 pm
Looks good to me.
December 20th, 2007 at 5:59 pm
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
December 20th, 2007 at 6:17 pm
WOW. I was looking forward to this anyway, but the missed the pulp elements from the first film UNTIL I saw this.
And the angel of death looks awesome.
December 20th, 2007 at 6:26 pm
It looks okay…at best.
December 20th, 2007 at 7:02 pm
one word:AMAZING!
i like how the graphics arent as gd as soem of the other big films, gives it a really nice look,
Im a big Hb fan , and GDT gets the character and the world , this film will be awsome, hope it does ok against the other summer movies though :S
December 20th, 2007 at 7:28 pm
Sold. Vehemently sold. *sniffle* Red, you had me at “Aw, crap”.
Now that the introductions and origins are out the way, I have a feeling this movie’s going to kick off big time and not stop until the credits roll.
One minor complaint that I hold full judgement until I see the movie: Why is Hellboy having a martial arts fight with the main baddie? The big guy’s a bar room brawler, not some fancy schmancy flipping and kicking guy.
December 20th, 2007 at 7:33 pm
“Though I am curious–did anyone give Del Toro a few “Stargate Atlantis” DVD sets before he started character designs? The bad guys look very similar to Wraith…”
Yeah, because before Stargate Craplantis no one ever did anything with albino characters.
Read a book, kid. Specificially Elric of Melniboné or Stormbringer.
BTW, just so you know, Stargate in all it’s forms blows and is ruining genre television. Thanks for supporting it.
December 20th, 2007 at 7:37 pm
I am super-psyched. I liked the first one, but I think Pan’s Labyrinth gave Del Toro the freedom to take Hellboy into a darker and more fleshed out world. I am STOKED! PRIMED! FREAKIN’ EXCITED!
This will be beyond awesome.
December 20th, 2007 at 7:45 pm
I wouldn’t call that a martial arts “fight”, it looke more like HB getting a beating.
Looks great. With this and Dark Night, comicbook/superheroe movies aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.
December 20th, 2007 at 7:56 pm
Looks Great!! And Johann is in it – although at what point, who knows?
December 20th, 2007 at 8:41 pm
Del Toro gets Hellboy like Ang Lee got the Hulk.
December 20th, 2007 at 9:29 pm
Chris, thanks for clearing that up. . .I was excited watching this and I was wondering if I’d missed a Hellboy story somewhere. I thought I’d read all that’s been published.
December 20th, 2007 at 9:31 pm
I am soooo excited! Liz looks awesome!
December 20th, 2007 at 9:37 pm
This looks amazing. I enjoyed the first one and this just seems like an improvement. Definitely a must see. Dark Knight, Iron Man, and Hellboy are my most looked forward to of next summer.
December 20th, 2007 at 9:58 pm
Del Toro gets Hellboy like Ang Lee got the Hulk.
Aw, Dave, you’re just bitter that we got the philosophical musing on the nature of rage Hulk than the Non-Stop Beatdown Hulk. I still maintain that Hulk wasn’t a bad movie, just not the movie everyone wanted.
Anywhom, this is one fine teaser trailer. Looking forward to it.
December 20th, 2007 at 10:00 pm
Awesome. Can’t wait for this.
December 20th, 2007 at 10:05 pm
That looks tasty indeed.
Brighter colors don’t bother me so much depending on how they’re used, though I figure they’ll probably adjust the color timing and shadows between this trailer and the film’s release.
December 20th, 2007 at 10:41 pm
Absolutely beautiful.
Great music at the end, too. Rammstein’s Mein Herz brennt.
I crapped by pants on cue, near the end, when Hellboy told me to.
December 20th, 2007 at 11:00 pm
GDT has never failed me. This one’s a another winner.
December 21st, 2007 at 12:16 am
As for the brighter colors, it could very well be the digital file, and nothing like how it wil look in a theater. This shit ain’t color accurate, guys.
As for the “martial arts fight,” just because Hellboy is a barroom brawler doesn’t mean somebody isn’t going to whip out some kung fu against HIM. It’s not like Big Red’s pulling the crane move in here anywhere.
I liked the first one, but I thought it was a little anti-climactic. All they need to do is build up to a nice big fight at the end, and I’ll be a happy boy.
December 21st, 2007 at 1:11 am
Hopefully, Del Toro is given more freedom with this movie than with the first Hellboy. His independent work is so well crafted but when he works in Hollywood it seems like everything he touches falls apart but I don’t think it’s his doing so much as its some higher-ups who think they know how to make a movie. The trailer is weak (as usual) but I have confidence that the cast and crew will make this movie better than the first…if they’re allowed to do so.

Don’t agree with much of anything you said.
Trailer DOES look great.
Clearly they ARE being “allowed to do so”.
Del Toro’s Blade II was great and it was mainstream.
December 21st, 2007 at 2:35 am
If Mignola’s “stepped back” from the movies, why the hell haven’t we seen him draw any comics for so long?
December 21st, 2007 at 7:24 am
Ummmm….this one doesn’t look as good as the first one. Plus, I miss Agent Miers.
December 21st, 2007 at 8:58 am
Hey, ElCoyote, nice to hear from you in your mom’s basement. How are things down there?
I love your assumptions that 1) I’m a kid, 2)I’ve never read Elric, and 3) that your opinion about Stargate (or anything else) actually matters, all of which are wrong. I sincerely hope you don’t play Lotto with that kind of track record.
Why does the Internet enable this kind of cobaggery?
December 21st, 2007 at 9:06 am
Martin, whether or not you are one, you’re acting like a child.
December 21st, 2007 at 9:21 am
Del Toro gets Hellboy like Ang Lee got the Hulk.
Then a tool replies:
“You’re just bitter that we got the philosophical musing on the nature of rage Hulk than the Non-Stop Beatdown Hulk.
Snotling: the epitemy of a ‘straw man theory’. Don’t skew others. You aren’t even close to what this comment meant.
December 21st, 2007 at 9:28 am
Gordon,
Hey, I call it like I see it. If someone insults me without any provocation or reason, they can expect the same in return. I feel no remorse. It’s not my obligation to turn the other cheek because some goofball has a grudge against a cheesy Sci-Fi show.
December 21st, 2007 at 10:15 am
Badass fun.
Note Larry Gordon (the first two Die Hards and Predator films), is one of the film’s producers. He worked on the first one and is currently supervising over Watchmen: The Movie.
December 21st, 2007 at 11:42 am
Keep it civil, people. Thanks.
December 21st, 2007 at 12:15 pm
Its nice when a preview creates such a one minded reaction from the preview reviewers….. :p
December 21st, 2007 at 12:16 pm
what do you seriously expect from this franchise? think about what you’re watching here. are you people expecting something oscar worthy? get over yourselves.
its going to be a CG-heavy slug fest, and its going to rule. and who gives a shit how Hellboy will fight? i’m stoked to see him on screen again. i’ll take what i can get.
and don’t bring up the Hulk movie. it was BAD. no one expected it AND it was bad. just because Ang Lee directed it, doesn’t mean it was good.
December 21st, 2007 at 1:28 pm
Loved the first movie and will love this one. Looks like they upped the ante. Can’t wait. Love the animated movies too.
December 22nd, 2007 at 6:10 am
This looks better than #1, I am IN!
December 22nd, 2007 at 11:00 pm
What is the name of the song they are playing during the preview? Can’t wait for this movie!!
July 3rd, 2008 at 3:50 am
Yes, regardless what you may think of its effect on “the genre” (lmao),it’s incredibly obvious that the Wraith race from Atlantis has been ripped off in Hellboy II. Any cinematic history of albinos notwithstanding, if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck…especially EXACTLY like a duck… Everyone involved with Stargate: Atlantis needs to seriously be looking into a copyright infringement suit.
