It really does feel like the original version of the Joker to me. Not all giggly and silly, just a remorseless killer with an eerie smile.
December 16th, 2007 at 10:32 pm
All my greatest hopes have been confirmed … A Joker to truly fear.
December 16th, 2007 at 11:17 pm
COOL, COOL, COOL!!!!
jack’s portrayal in the 1st was pretty good as only Jack could do…but THIS is true to the character I think.
December 17th, 2007 at 1:02 am
i am afraid the joker will take more running time than batman, just like last time they were both in a movie
Matteo
December 17th, 2007 at 6:17 am
Promising…
December 17th, 2007 at 6:31 am
I’m moreso super excited than before for this flick. I hope Two-face has got the goods in it too!
December 17th, 2007 at 7:06 am
Awesome. Really get a Joker-vibe with Ledger. He reminds me of a scarier Joker from “The Killing Joke”
December 17th, 2007 at 7:14 am
Should be interesting to see how they make a mentally + physically scarred man with knives + a gun a threat to the Batman.
December 17th, 2007 at 7:16 am
if the bat-bike wasnt so stupid looking I might actually go see this
December 17th, 2007 at 7:20 am
This looks incredible! When I saw Batman Begins it was everything I wanted to see from a new a Batman franchise, and this continues the awesomeness!
December 17th, 2007 at 7:33 am
“if the bat-bike wasnt so stupid looking I might actually go see this”
So you’re officially a dope.
December 17th, 2007 at 7:35 am
I really cant get past the ridiculous bat-suit (armour) but I’m still gonna see the movie
December 17th, 2007 at 7:43 am
As good as the trailer was and as good as the movie will probably be, I just can’t get myself excited about TDK.
And I really liked Batman Begins.
December 17th, 2007 at 7:44 am
Yes this movie will rock
for three reason
the new Batsuit he finally looks like batman and not some Gothic dude
The batpod look better then the ridiculous battank
The Joker rocks
December 17th, 2007 at 7:49 am
That Joker will haunt my nightmares. I can’t wait!
December 17th, 2007 at 7:52 am
Does Judge Dredd know that Batman nicked his bike?
December 17th, 2007 at 7:58 am
“if the bat-bike wasnt so stupid looking I might actually go see this
Comment by ViperOneTwo — December 17, 2007 @ 7:16 am”
wow. I have never heard of someone boycotting a movie because they didn’t like the look of a vehicle in it.
I think the marketing for this film has almost been euphoric. (TBH I was a bit dissappointed that WB had bootlegged youtube videos of the new trailer removed – surely the Joker wouldn’t approve of that?!)
My only worry is that, no matter how good the movie is, can it really live up to the hype? Here’s hoping…
December 17th, 2007 at 8:03 am
They had me with Maggie Gyllenhaal.
December 17th, 2007 at 8:29 am
This is going to rock. July 2008 can’t get here soon enough.
December 17th, 2007 at 8:34 am
Actually, I’m not a Batman fan and wasn’t psyched to see this but Ledger has sold me on seeing it theatrically.
After I see Hellboy II at least twice anyway
December 17th, 2007 at 8:37 am
Whoah. I guess Im the only one that thinks this looks absolulty terrible. This with the footage from the first six min,( see youtube) makes feel very unsure about this movie.

I guess so. I’m really excited to see this movie, it hits the day before my Birthday.
December 17th, 2007 at 8:49 am
I can’t get past the feeling that Ledger looks more like The Crow than The Joker. I’ll see it, but like Batman Begins, I’m not getting a great vibe. If BB was a franchise reboot, why was he wearing body armor and Gotham City getting rocked by huge explosions at the end? Seemed a lot like the last four to me, minus some crap.
December 17th, 2007 at 8:58 am
Batman Begins was an almost perfect movie. The Dark Knight will even be better. No doubt in my mind. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, however anyone who doubts Chris Nolan (who has yet to make a wrong move) and Christian Bale (who has yet to fail in any performance) is just insane.
December 17th, 2007 at 9:01 am
HELLS yeah. This is definitely going in the direction I’m interested in.
December 17th, 2007 at 9:05 am

Considering that the look of the Crow was inspired by the Joker rather than the other way around. It’s an action movie, things blow up in action movies.
December 17th, 2007 at 9:19 am
“Considering that the look of the Crow was inspired by the Joker rather than the other way around. It’s an action movie, things blow up in action movies.”
You don’t seriously think I was implying that this version of the Joker was inspired by The Crow, do you? Place a picture of the Brian Bolland Joker (as an example – seems like a classic depiction) next to Brandon Lee as The Crow, then dig out a Ledger Joker pic. If you see it as being more like Bolland’s Joker I must have on the wrong glasses. Regarding all the explosions, my comment was that for a highly touted franchise reboot, it feels a lot like the previous incarnation. Nothing to do with explosions in action movies, old son.
December 17th, 2007 at 9:28 am
It looks great. To all these geniuses who want Batman to wear gray tights instead of his black suit, please, go read a comic book. Gray leotards would make this look like a JOKE…or the TV show from the 60’s, which is sure to pack em in…not. Love the tank. Love the look of the bike. To those who don’t, take your hard earned money down to blockbuster, and go watch Burton’s and Schumacher’s crap fests.
December 17th, 2007 at 9:37 am
He wasn’t saying that you were implying that the Joker was inspired by The Crow; what he said was that the reason that Joker looks like The Crow is that the Crow design was based on The Joker. Yeesh.
Anyway,I think the movie looks to be as good as the first, and tire of postings that nitpick and negate for the sake of being negative.
December 17th, 2007 at 9:37 am
“… not.” Whoah, people are still using that? I thought Borat killed it off.
December 17th, 2007 at 10:02 am
Trailer ROCKS! This is gonna be the coolest movie of 2008 and one of the best sequels ever. Hedger’s Joker is really freakin scary.
Warner Bros. must do everything for Christopher Nolan and his cast & crew gang to stay in the series as long as possible. Be clever WB! Eventually you’ll win. Don’t ruin this series like you did before.
December 17th, 2007 at 10:15 am

I think you’re making assumptions about a movie based on a single trailer. As far as you feeling like it’s like the previous series of films, it’s superficial because frankly, It’s a Batman movie. They feel like Batman movies If it didn’t it wouldn’t be Batman would it?
And I wouldn’t compare ledgers look to the Bolland Joker. I would however compare him to the origimnal Bob Kane, or the Jerry Robinson version or Batman the animated series.
December 17th, 2007 at 11:01 am
I agree with those who say the bike and the bat-suit sucks, but then I haven’t liked ANY of the Batman suits from the last 20 years. I hate that black rubber armor. I’d prefer the grey tights with a padded body armor underneath to look naturally muscular.
BUT … as much as I don’t like those things, that has never stopped me from seeing (and sometimes enjoying) the movies, and I’m sure I’ll be among the first in line for this one. It really does look great – costumes and bikes not withstanding.
December 17th, 2007 at 11:04 am
Hey, let’s face it. If people didn’t make assumptions based on the trailer, we wouldn’t get HALF as much entertainment out of the internet as we do.
With Iron Man and the Dark Knight coming, 2008 is going to rock.
December 17th, 2007 at 11:36 am
If you see I Am Legend in IMAX, you actually see a clip from the movie. Looks awesome!
December 17th, 2007 at 11:39 am
Just as a heads up to what might be misleading about the tag line on the main page — This is not the trailer that was shown at “I am Legend.”
I’m glad I’m seeing a lot of awesome looking footage. But if you haven’t seen it, try and track down the other trailer, because you get a legitimate full scene from the movie.
December 17th, 2007 at 11:42 am
This is like a run of the mill action flick with batman innit. I never understand why they try to make an already far fetched, typically comic-bookish idea more ‘realistic’ with that morgan freeman weapons lab crap. I grew up on the nicholson joker and thats my view on how the joker and a batman flick should be so i’m disappointed like i was with BB.
December 17th, 2007 at 11:45 am
My Birthday week. Oh Yes! July 18th, come on baby!!!
Superhero movies this summer are just going to be stepping stones to The Dark Knight.
The suit doesn’t make the movie guys, neither does the bat-cycle, and neither does batmobile – get over the comic, this is the movie version of Batman, there those of us who want to see something new. Christopher Nolan is trying to show how a comic book character could actually work in “real” life by actually making some of these weapons and suits. That’s what I love about this new take. And I’ll be in line for the IMAX Dark Knight, gonna blow my mind for sure since i’ve watched the trailer like 30 times already…
December 17th, 2007 at 11:57 am
it’s funny that people come here, already deciding that they don’t like it. and feel the need to tell everybody. “hey i the bat cycle is dumb, im not gonna see it. hey only nicholson is the joker, so i’m not gonna give this a chance”
December 17th, 2007 at 12:49 pm
“Batman Begins” was as close to a perfect superhero movie as you can get, and “The Dark Knight” looks to be even better. I’m eminently satisfied with Ledger’s Joker at this point, and as for the Batsuit–let’s be real. Anyone going out there and doing what Bruce Wayne is doing would armor themselves up to the nines. I know it’ll never happen, but it would make my day to see the comics Batman ditch the tights and roll out the armored Batsuit full time.
December 17th, 2007 at 1:29 pm
I think it looks great….and I get that they’re REALLY pushing the Joker(or pushing Ledger?) in this trailer. I get that I do. Call me crazy, but I kinda missed seeing more Batman. :/
December 17th, 2007 at 1:34 pm
I think the batsuit having an armor-like appearance in pretty much all the modern day bat films has been an excellent choice as oppose to the whole “kevlar-woven” spandex of the comics. It supports a more realistic take on what a mortal man would do if he were to fight crime – you don’t see SWAT teams dressed in black spandex after all.
Also, everything in these batman films seems to have more of a purpose rather than a showy, drama to it – we’ve already got Batman films with flair and dramatic gothic style – now this take shows a “truer” batman if he were to actually exist. If Nolan just re-did the look and feel of Burton’s films, then he’d be getting more anger directed his way for being a ripoff.
And Ledger’s Joker gives me some promise because his voice is pretty great for it (something I just couldnt see happening at first) and he plays the character with brutality and flair – which plays in stark contrast to this version of Batman. The only problem with this Joker is like what some have stated, the look is very “crow”ish and I personally would like to see some kind of fight built in that would make that white make-up adhere to his skin permanently. I don’t like the fact that his complete origin is pretty much changed, BUT if they can work something in during the course of the film then that’d be pretty awesome. Just my two cents….although I think it reads more like $3.50…haha
December 17th, 2007 at 1:56 pm
Wow, nasty, creepy old basement living fanboys nitpicking over every last detail of a comic book movie. Where have I seen that before? Those of you that want to face gunfire and knives wearing gray pajamas err tights instead of armor…go right ahead. Chris Nolan and Co. know what they are doing, and not single lonely overfed men living with their parents. Lates.
December 17th, 2007 at 2:15 pm
everyone’s entitled to their own opinion – but if you already hated batman begins..why bother to come here and complain about how you hate the dark knight movie? if you love the burton films then that’s awesome and good for you, i like those too – but if you just want to come in here to spew about how much you hate a movie that hasn’t even been fully released yet, then i think that speaks a lot louder than your complaints even do. close-mindedness is honestly what keeps any form of entertainment and creative expression from growing. stagnation is the death of creativity!
December 17th, 2007 at 2:19 pm
Does Judge Dredd know that Batman nicked his bike?
Comment by Andy G — December 17, 2007 @ 7:52 am
“DROP IT, CREEP!” It’s the Bat-sequel no one sees coming!
December 17th, 2007 at 2:27 pm
Looks much better than the terrible Iron Man movie. Marvel seems to fill all their superhero movies with unnecessary cheese(Fantastic 4, Ghostrider)
December 17th, 2007 at 2:46 pm
“Regarding all the explosions, my comment was that for a highly touted franchise reboot, it feels a lot like the previous incarnation. Nothing to do with explosions in action movies, old son.”
Hmmmm…feels like “previous incarnation”? I must be color blind because I didn’t see any neon colors at all in that trailer, nope, not even on the Joker’s gun. And it definitely didn’t feel like a Tim Burton film too. So I have absolutely no idea which “previous incarnation” you’re referring to. And “old son”? Man, you’re showing your age! Did you grow up watching those old Batman movie serials?
December 17th, 2007 at 2:57 pm
i thought the trailer looked crap, the joker looks like a lame beetlejuice he didn’t look scary and the explosions looked cheap in fact for a blockbuster the trailer looked cheap to me ,so i’m not excited to see dark knight…which is sad as i love the batman…oh well
December 17th, 2007 at 2:58 pm
Damn, Ledger’s a scary SOB…
December 17th, 2007 at 3:08 pm

Comment by More of the same old crap — December 17, 2007 @ 11:42 am ”
Man, I almost died laughing after reading this. A comment by “More of the same old crap”!!! Is that why you didn’t like BB? Because you prefer “more of the same old crap”? I just hope you’re not referring to the previous series, mainly the Schumacher ones. If that’s the case, go home and watch those atrocities with your Batsuit with nipple on.
December 17th, 2007 at 3:36 pm
“Batsuit looks crap, Batpod looks crap, trailer looks crap, Joker looks like a lame Beetlejuice/Crow” – Man, for the all that is holy, the f@#%&ng whinning is unbelievable!!! I’d bet that these people are the same ones who spent their hard-earned cash to watch Batman Forever-helped make it a blockbuster, which spawned the hideous Batman & Robin, which these very same people went to spend their hard-earned cash to watch.
Here’s the thing… if you didn’t like the first one, chances are, you won’t like TDK too. So don’t even bother! I loathed the first FF movie, and since the second one was made by the same creative team, so I didn’t waste my time and money on it, and I have no plans on watching it, ever, even on DVD. And most importantly, I didn’t waste my breath bitching about it on the internet.
December 17th, 2007 at 3:59 pm
Yeah i agree with you it’s look like CRAP! Bring back Tim Burton.
December 17th, 2007 at 4:25 pm
This movie is going to be awesome flat out. Batman Begins is what the franchise needed and The Dark Knight is the continuation of that needed reboot in more ways than one.
Those people that think Batman should be campy won’t like these new movies and that is fine, but those who understand that batman should be treated with some respect and seriousness I believe will enjoy what they are doing with the movies..
December 17th, 2007 at 4:26 pm
I’m excited about the film, but I’m trying to remain cautiously optimistic. It’s great that thaey put Maggie Gyllenhaal in the the trailer(she’s cute). It looked like Batman was beating The Joker after he (Batman) asked, “where is he?”
December 17th, 2007 at 4:55 pm
i am sold. this is enough to whet my appetite. unfortunately, my sister is working post-production on the movie and i have forced a few plot details out of her. the brothers nolan will not dissappoint with this one. you will not even begin to be able to predict the plot twists. for those who want a perfect adaptation, don’t see this movie. this movie is an actual fresh take on the mythos, not a candy dish that is contrived only from fan message boards like the shitty marvel movies. the problem with comic movies is the comic fanbase is loud and bitchy. a bunch of peter pans who dont want creative minds to trample on their nostalgia. this movie is not the typical formulaic popcorn piece you may expect, trust me. it is not a joker movie. this trailer is just to sell tickets. the harvey dent saga will take center stage and- i better shut up, before my sister gets fired. let’s just say, i think its going to rule. if only the comics could be so bold…
December 17th, 2007 at 5:38 pm
rant then the anti-rant, more ranting and snarky retorts.
I think I’ll just reserve my full judgment until I see the film. Any initial opinion on the film based on a trailer is going to warrant extremes in views from one side to the other, especially considering the expectations involved.
Not to say I don’t have an opinion of the trailer, but I seen some good parts and some questionably bad parts, but overall I remain interested.
December 17th, 2007 at 7:15 pm
I am so unbelievably hyped-up for this film. It really is ridiculous. I think i watched it about 5 times in a row when I got back from work.
And I was skeptical about Ledger being Joker, as I personally saw Paul Bettany in the role. But jeezus f***ing christ, I think he may have nailed it. He even looks addicted to the thrills he gets from his crimes.
Seriously cannot wait.
December 17th, 2007 at 8:08 pm
Sorry guys, but I am not feelling the Joker… he looks like a homeless clown, who hasn´t taken a bath for some time and that is angry…. but definetly not scary, not twisted, and he doesn´t seem to have that dark humor edge that made Tim Burton´s Joker so scary… definetly not the Joker…. no one can beat Jack Nicholson…. This director makes his movies devoided of emotion, he lacks that edge, his movies are well crafted, well presented, everything is so well done…. but flat and emotionless… and batman has got to be…like 300, that you leave the theatre shaking from the thrill.
December 17th, 2007 at 11:40 pm
Eh… I gotta say, for me it comes down to Joker. I liked “Batman Begins” but mostly just because I like comic books. Batman’s cavalierness with property destruction got to me. Batman should care more about innocents with a traumatic incident like his in his past. But… whatever. I’m still interested. My favorite Joker has been Mark Hamill. It’s the perfect blend of insanity and fun. Like the Joker in “The Laughing Fish.” He enjoys what he’s doing. This Joker mostly looks psychotic. I bet it’ll be a good movie, just not what I quite want to see.
December 18th, 2007 at 2:21 am
All it is is a bunch of explosions and one liners and “look we have a Joker!” preview. Batman Begins wasnt all that and was seriously hurt by the pointly 5 minute car chase with the terribly looking batmobile and it looks like from this preview this film flop will have two chase sequences. Action may look cool, explosions may be fun, one liners are a hoot, but thas has yet to show it has more plot or acting then Battlefield Earth. Dont hate the film till you see it, dont love the film till you see it. So stop giving Nolan and Christian “Worst Batman Ever” Bale oral gratification for this movie until its been seen.
December 18th, 2007 at 4:59 am
Batman Begins=best comic book movie ever
Dark Knight-best comic book sequel ever
Iron Man’s getting his ass kicked in 2008.

You are really, really dumb. Like mind breakingly, vomit inducingly stupid. You know that, right? I hope so.
December 18th, 2007 at 8:24 am
Wow Blafter that is truly creative. You act like I insulted your mother or something. You could just comment with oh I dont know “I disagree ViperOneTwo” but instead you attack me with no defense of the trailer, the movie or anything. Perhaps you are the dumb one then? Ill give you that it definately will be better then Batman Forever and Batman & Robin, but thats a no brainer (except for you, as I imagine you can not even come up with an excuse why those two movies were bad, other then the were perhaps mind breakingly and vomit inducing).
Perhaps you can explain to me how this trailer proves it is going to be all that great. It may very well be that great and might be the best movie ever. But I dont see the trailer as being proof of that. It was what I said. A bunch of action shots, some explosions and one liners. Hardly anything to judge the film on.

I’m amused at the amount of “this is crap” reaction TDK is getting.
I’m old enough to remember when Tim Burton’s movies were out and a whole bunch of people said they were crap. So the studios turned around and allowed the 3rd and 4th movies to be made by somebody else in a dramatically different style. And then another whole bunch of people said those were crap. And now another bunch of people are saying these 2 newest are a bunch of crap.
And yet, all these movie a ton of money…
…am I the only one seeing a pattern here?

Plain and simple…
anyone that doesn’t love this trailer is a fool.
The Burton/shumacher movies were crap
Nolan’s work is the closest live action has ever come to getting it right.

And we’re done here … geez. Once again, we aren’t here so you can insult each other.
