Teachers at the Faculty of Manga in Kyoto, Japan, have put together a manga pamphlet designed to spread information about the unsolved murder of 20-year-old student Daisaku Chiba, who was stabbed to death in Kyoto on Jan. 15.
In addition to describing the known characteristics of the suspected male killer, the pamphlet devotes half of its pages to depicting Chiba’s life. It includes stories, recounted by friends, of how he studied diligently to become a manga artist in his northern hometown of Sendai. Kyoto Seika University is famed for creating Japan’s first university manga program and faculty of manga. An unnamed 46-year-old male instructor in the manga faculty told the Nikkei news firm, “Chiba-kun met us through manga. Wouldn’t it give us some comfort if we could help arrest the killer with the power of manga?”
