aaaaagh my eyes
December 7th, 2007 at 6:43 am
This gets a big meh from the Shrug Department.
December 7th, 2007 at 7:09 am
Like all their movies, it seem well cast, looks nice, the action looks fun, and their dialog is atrocious.
December 7th, 2007 at 7:39 am
It looks like Charlie and The Chocolate Factory meets F-Zero
December 7th, 2007 at 8:24 am
I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.
December 7th, 2007 at 8:37 am
I kind of enjoyed that despite myself.
December 7th, 2007 at 8:38 am
It’s like the mutant offspring of the Disney Channel and X-Box vomitted on the big screen.
December 7th, 2007 at 8:43 am
I liked it.
looks just as chessy as the original cartoon
December 7th, 2007 at 8:49 am
Looks crazy. Like a weird blend of futurism, Japanese pop culture, and video games. Interesting though so I’ll hold out till I see more.
December 7th, 2007 at 8:53 am
Looks…strange.
December 7th, 2007 at 8:59 am
Absolutely wonderful!
A great blend of cheesy, cartoony, and cool!
December 7th, 2007 at 9:03 am
Aquaman: As a HUGE F-Zero fan… I got that vibe too when I saw this.
It actually looks kinda cool, to be honest. It’s also pretty scary how John Goodman looks almost exactly like Pops in the cartoon too. =O
December 7th, 2007 at 9:05 am
First impressions: this is what a Uwe Boll movie would look and sound like if he was ever handed a real budget.
December 7th, 2007 at 9:18 am
Took some getting used to when I first watched the trailer, but I thought it was pretty sharp looking. A lot of fun!
December 7th, 2007 at 9:19 am
Looks interesting. I was surprised to hear ALIAS soundtrack music 13 seconds in.
December 7th, 2007 at 9:28 am
So, will people like myself who did not grow up watching Speed Racer like this movie? Does the car turn into a robot or something?
December 7th, 2007 at 9:32 am
Did i just swallow a pound of candy? colorful, thats for sure. Kids will love it…in that scoobie doo way.
December 7th, 2007 at 9:37 am
Awesometastic.
December 7th, 2007 at 10:21 am
Yeah. This just looks awesome. That’s it. I’m not looking for Speed Racer to change my world, just be a big dumb fun movie.
December 7th, 2007 at 10:23 am
yikes
December 7th, 2007 at 10:27 am
The kinetic energy of this trailer is fantastic. I am sure this movie will not dissapoint. I showed the trailer to my 8 year old boys and they flipped.
Go, Speed, Go!!
December 7th, 2007 at 10:29 am
Oops. My fingers were too fast for my brain. Spelling correction on “disappoint”.
Sorry.
December 7th, 2007 at 10:34 am
Bizarre. Yet, enticing. Needs a dialogue polish though.
December 7th, 2007 at 10:45 am
It’s what I expect , it looks like a movie version of the cartoon.
December 7th, 2007 at 10:48 am
That looks sooooooo bad…. but loads of fun. Not sure it’ll make money, but I’ll see it when it hits DVD.
December 7th, 2007 at 10:52 am
It looks like a live-action cartoon.
Should be fun for a trip to the movies, but not something I’d buy on DVD
December 7th, 2007 at 10:56 am
Torn between interest and throwing up.
December 7th, 2007 at 11:22 am
I wanna watch it. It has all the goofy speed racer stuff I loved.
December 7th, 2007 at 11:27 am
Seems like a movie with a serious identity crisis. The visual design gives the impression of something loose and fun and over the top. But the tone of the performances gives the impression that the Wachowski’s are taking this thing way too seriously.
December 7th, 2007 at 11:31 am
Oh, gods…
Why does this remind me of the Warren Beatty/Madonna crapfest “Dick Tracy”?
December 7th, 2007 at 11:46 am
in defense of Dick Tracy, as well as The Rocketeer, the former had some swell Madonna songs while the latter had excellent dialog i.e. “the son of a bitch will fly!”
This Speed Racer movie reminds me of the Speed Racer animated series. Go figure.
December 7th, 2007 at 12:37 pm
Was that the score from Alias in the beginning? I can’t help it, but part of me did enjoy that trailer.
December 7th, 2007 at 1:10 pm
Damn, that is an acid trip of a trailer! Kids don’t do drugs!
December 7th, 2007 at 1:48 pm
I hope they un-cgi the effects on the race scenes some…make it look more real….but overall, interesting.
December 7th, 2007 at 2:03 pm
Freaky. If by some bizzare miracle it becomes a box office hit. I want the Motor Cycle Apaches or the Mammoth Car to be in the sequel.
December 7th, 2007 at 2:07 pm
Oh, gods…

Comment by Onestar — December 7, 2007
I didn’t think “Dick Tracy” was that bad.
BTW, I want a two-disc SE of that baby.
December 7th, 2007 at 2:11 pm
No wonder Doc Frankenstein is always late. This looks pretty cool.
December 7th, 2007 at 2:59 pm
I think it looks pretty cool. It has the feel of a tokusatsu adaptation of an anime.
December 7th, 2007 at 3:27 pm
Orgasmic!
December 7th, 2007 at 4:58 pm
Why is it people complain when a Live Action Adaptation is nothing like the cartoon but once one is made that is almost EXACTLY like it, they STILL complain?
December 7th, 2007 at 5:20 pm
I saw this during Entertainment Tonight last night and I have to say that despite what looks like horrible CGI the story of an evil Nascar type org trying to lure in Speed seems interesting. Not so sure about the Ninjas tho… but as everyone knows…everything’s better with monkeys. I read that the monkey actually bit one of the actors. No idea which one tho. *L*
December 7th, 2007 at 5:21 pm
I’ll wait for the Racer X spin off.
December 7th, 2007 at 6:28 pm
“Why is it people complain when a Live Action Adaptation is nothing like the cartoon but once one is made that is almost EXACTLY like it, they STILL complain?”
Because those are different people. One group complains about one thing and the other group complains about the other thing.
Remember, if a movie breaks all box office records and is seen by 100 million people in the US, that’s still 200 million who didn’t watch it. Everything has lots of people who don’t like it, so everything will get some amount of complaints.
December 7th, 2007 at 6:47 pm
People just like to complain. I like candy and this is so sweet my teeth hurt.
December 7th, 2007 at 6:47 pm
Wow, this look so cheesy but since it doesn’t actually seem to pretend to be anything else than pure cheese, I think it will be quite entertaining. You know, compared to upcoming movies like Hitman who actually tries to look dramatic and serious while the basic concept is just retarded. At least Speed Racer will completely embrace what it’s supposed to be!
December 7th, 2007 at 10:05 pm
You are spot on, Nick. The Speed Racer trailer I saw worked because the Wachowskis realize that the original cartoon was undeniabliy cheesy, kid-oriented, and thus fun. Not every summer blockbuster has to be grim or trying to make a political statement.
So, Speed Racer has a excellent chance of being a massive hit. It also doesn’t hurt that racing movies have been successful lately whether animation (Cars) or comedies (Talladega Nights).
December 8th, 2007 at 6:07 am
It looks cool, cheesy dialogue & all.
And no one mentioned the fact that Racer X is wearing black S&M leather. Larry Watchowski & his leather fetish.. tsk tsk.
December 8th, 2007 at 10:40 am
No one mentioned it because it’s only a slight difference from what the charcter wore in the cartoon.
December 8th, 2007 at 12:22 pm
I Love Cheese & I Love this movie, it’s flipp’in wicked! Fast paced action, I’m lov’in it, can’t wait Speed Racer Goooooooo!
December 8th, 2007 at 3:06 pm
This looks AWFUL. Those effects are really BAAAAAD!!
December 8th, 2007 at 3:41 pm
Cool, a needed corrective to all the realistic ‘grim and gritty’ cgi! And— they’d better use the ALPHA TEAM’s cover of the theme as the Main Title…
December 8th, 2007 at 4:51 pm
Please doG, don’t let this be a f*ck-up!
December 8th, 2007 at 6:19 pm
I think looks great…and the cheesy part im sure they made it to be like that to give it that cartoon look but same time realistic movie…looks like a fun movie to watch..
December 9th, 2007 at 12:59 am
Oh-my-god. I’m going to see this movie, hands down, even if it turns out to be bad. I hope they add the classic sound effect to the Auto Jacks, cuz that’d be awesome.
December 9th, 2007 at 1:53 am
Mmmmmm…Ricci.
It’s possible that the visual effects and cgi haven’t been completed.
December 10th, 2007 at 10:26 am
I think I just had a seizure, this thing needs a warning label
December 10th, 2007 at 9:20 pm
what is the song at :30 and 1:17, I can’t find it anywhere, and I think this movie is going to be great. slightly cheezy, but I’ve seen much MUCH worse become box office hits.
December 11th, 2007 at 7:25 pm
Wow, that’ll be good time. What is up with Goodman’s moustache? I know the guy from the Toon had one but c’mon!
April 12th, 2008 at 4:00 pm
Seems like a cute kids movie aimed at older children.
