One of the most anticipated releases of next year — okay, at least it’s one of my most anticipated releases of next year — Jeff Smith’s RASL #1, is getting a variant cover. Smith shared the variant on his blog, pointing out that the book is in this month’s Previews.

I have bought everything that Jeff Smith has ever put out, and seriously love his stuff…. Sadly, I will wait tith the trade on this one… I even thought the story looked very promising… just don’t know where to put a book that wont fit into my long boxes… I learned that with Mouse Guard. the size of the book is the only thing stopping me.

As someone who doesn’t mind buying a large and unwieldy comic. This is definitely my most anticipated release of ‘08. By far.

What kind of dimensions is this supposed to be? I haven’t heard anything about that.

Man, Joel, that is one of the stupidest things I have ever read. Sheesh.

maybe put on on your book shelf…
would that work?

Good news for Joel! The regular issues of RASL will be standard (6″ x 10″) comic book size. Only the collections will be oversized.
This is a change from what we were saying back in the summer; since then many retailers have convinced me to go this route, exactly because of what Joel is worried about.
I still want the trades oversized, though. It looks so cool big!

Hell yeah.

I was actually looking forward to the over-sized singles, but what are you going to do? Someone will complain either way.
I’ll still be getting the single issues. Can’t wait!

Oh, well, then I’ll be the onw waiting fer the trade then.
Boo Digests! Yay Gigantocoms!
//\Oo/\\
(I didn’t mean it, digests!)

Joel, I feel for your pain of being anal-retentive and ratpacker. If only Hotdogs would be the same length as buns, I’d eat them. If only all movies ended precisely 2 hours I could watch 8 of them in 16 hours. If only there was one Messiah, I’d pray.
Joel you’re never going live life the fullest if you can’t break the mold and try new things. Go buy Mouse Guard.

wow…. awesome! Jeff smith answered my prayers! (so so very very happy!!!)….
I will definitely buy it… and for UBERSHEP, the guy who said i was saying stupid things…. well, apparently you are the only genius here is you, because according to Jeff Smith, other retailers had the same concern.
and Cray.. I DO buy Mouse Guard, and it sits on my wife’s bookshelf (she likes it too)… and gets more beat up everyday it sits there.. I want something I can bag, board and keep nice for the future.
