Brody cast as The Flash?

Adam Brody

The L.A. Time is reporting that Adam Brody, a.k.a. The OC’s Seth Cohen, will play the Flash in the Justice League film, despite Warner Bros. Pictures’ reluctance to confirm … or even say that the film has the green light:

The studio is expected to hold off on an announcement until all the roles are cast and a splashy news conference can herald the return of the beloved series. “Justice League of America” is one of Warner Bros.’ highest-priority films right now, with an anticipated 2009 release.

Rampant speculation over which celebrities will don tights erupted almost immediately after Miller announced auditions for the leading roles in October, indicating that he wanted “actors who can grow into their super-roles.”

Brody, best known as the heartthrob on “The O.C.,” joins Australian supermodel Megan Gale, who was reportedly cast as Wonder Woman, apparently beating out Jessica Biel for the part.

“… return of the beloved series”? They make it sound like this is a follow-up or remake of a previous JLA movie.

The story also talks about previously rumored castings, as well as a little bit of the plot — Brody plays Wally West, and the film supposedly opens with Barry Allen’s funeral. I like how they describe the Flash: “As an adult, the Flash has superhuman reflexes that allow him to violate some laws of physics.” Or in layman’s terms: he moves really fast.

  5. Deep Shock Says:

Yes, we have seen the O.C. and yes, he can actually act! Instead of whining you should really pay more attention to your spelling!

  6. apk Says:

I like Brody a lot, thought he was one of the few good things about Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Anyway, so long as they use the old 90s TV show costume, i’m cool with this.

  7. JZ Says:

the best part about the JLA movie so far is that Megan Gale is possibly Wonder Woman…dont know if the lady can act but she is definitely is the best looking person aesthetically for the part! lets hope she can act the part too!Good luck to the JLA!

  8. metlaneth Says:

Justice League movie gonna be new Batman & Robin disaster for Warner Bros. These guys definately have no idea what they are going to do. Just wait and see.

  9. JAMES HARDCORE Says:

10 bucks that the costumes have plastic nipples

  10. wampit Says:

comics into movies = ultra suckage

  11. dave Says:

wow.this should suck.why do we (the people who keeps comics going)have to suffer crap like this?I love how comic movies are not made for comic fans.

  12. Caats19 Says:

i actually think he’s a good casting, because apparently the movie starts with barry’s funeral. and when i think of wally turning from kid to flash, i think brody has the look. but yeah if the other castings are true, this movie is gonna blow.

  13. Scott Tingley Says:

“so long as they use the old 90s TV show costume”
I think that would be a bad idea. Flash doesn’t need to look big - sleak is okay (IMO)

  14. Aaron Says:

I think hes great for the part, not my ideal choice but hes a great actor, and likes comics enough to know not to screw up the part completely.

  15. Venus Says:

He’s not a bad choice acting wise…actually…he might really be able to pull it off.

I’d just buy him as Kyle Rayner more, I think.

  16. Chris Says:

It’s a follow-up to the little watched Justice League movie from the late 80s/early 90s that you can only get via bootleg

  17. Eric Says:

Brody is 28; it is time for him to stop playing a kid/young adult. Also, he always plays the same character, or his acting keeps a character from developing (OC, Mr & Mrs Smith, In the Land of Women). Why not Zach Gilford or Jesse Plemons? They may not have the name draw, but they are great actors and they don’t have the negative association Brody has with a lot of people. Scott Porter comments on the rumors about The Flash and the fact that he may be Superman.

  19. Jack Says:

Why does a story from Variety now spin it that Biel was ‘beat out’ for the role of Wonder Woman? Didn’t they previously report that she was the one that turned them down?

  20. jeff Says:

I’ve seen him in a couple roles which he’s done a good job and if you remember the O.C. they were really supportive of our industry.

  21. Roy Says:

“I’ve seen him in a couple roles which he’s done a good job and if you remember the O.C. they were really supportive of our industry.”

That’s because the O.C. was produced by Warner Bros Television., a sister company of DC Comics under the Time Warner conglomerate umbrella.

As for Brody, I only watched only one episode of the O.C. because of him.

  22. Tom Says:

I think the whole concept of a justice league movie is gonna suck, but if Brody were to play the Flash in a Flash movie than I think I would like it. Adam Brody’s a pretty good actor.

  23. Ken Says:

This movie will suck so hard, people will think Brad Meltzer wrote it.

  24. Shaun Says:

I can’t judge this kid as an actor, but his sh*t-eating grin picture at the top of this page makes me wanna puke. Forget that he doesn’t look a damned thing like Wally… He just looks like a snot-nosed punk. OK, maybe you could say the same about Wally in his early days (or his animated JL version). But there’s nothing that says “super heroic” to me when I look at this guy.

It’s like the kid J.J. Abrams chose to play Captain Kirk. I get the feeling he’d go crying for his mommy the first time a Klingon or Romulan tries to pick a fight. I just don’t see why WB wants to go this “JLA 90210″ route, or why they even want to make this movie at all.

  25. Vaneta Rogers Says:

    I

  26. Stephen S. Bergstrom Says:

Hey, as long as it’s better than that JLA live-action pilot they crapped out back in 1994, I’m good.

That was best described as “Friends” with super-powers. I wish I were kidding.

  27. Captain Temerity Says:

Adam Brody, I think, can pull it off. I agree, visually, he would make a better Kyle, but since they’re probably going to go John, I’m more than happy seeing him in the Wally role. I’ve never watched an ep of The O.C., but I’ve seen him in other stuff (which may be why I’m more forgiving than others), and he was good. Him being a fan makes me support him even more.

The Scott Porter interview (thanks for the link), again, doesn’t make me think he’s “Superman” as I would picture the character, but I would definitely support the guy being in a role somewhere in the movie, because he seems pretty cool and up on what he’s talking about.

My concern is, looking at the list of who is “rumored” to be in the movie, having such a youthful looking Superman would seem off-balanced with some of the others. But they could surprise me.

Yeah, the film will most likely never reach the heights of our (comics fans) expectations, because we’ve wanted a true JLA film for most of our lives. As good as Batman Begins or Spiderman or X2 were, they had flaws that we all harp on. Mostly because so much is vested in a film. you don’t like this month’s Spidey, you have next month to look forward to for a new one. But the films take years (decades?) between them, and that’s after waiting to get one at all. So you want it to be everything you ever hoped for, and that’s, frankly, unrealistic.

It might suck. It might not. I’m waiting to see.

  28. Craig Says:

I’ll believe it when Warners releases something official. Same thing goes for this “Ray Park is Snake-Eyes in G.I. Joe” thing.

    http://www.slashfilm.com/2007/12/04/exclusive-ray-park-cast-as-snake-eyes-in-gi-joe-movie

Without official confirmation its all rumor.

  29. Charles Skaggs Says:

I really hope this story turns out to be false. Brody can do glib, but has a nasally voice and doesn’t physically resemble Wally West. I think Ryan Reynolds looks more adult and delivers his lines more smoothly than Brody, so here’s hoping director George Miller and company rethink things before principal shooting begins.

  30. Carlos Says:

As long as they pay attention to the source material and take it seriously like Batman Begins it will rock! If they the camp Superman Returns route it will suck. It’s up to you WB

  31. The Dude Says:

They just need to call this ‘YOUNG Justice League’ and get it over with… Beyond the woman they cast as Wonder Woman I am far from impressed.

And having competing Bat-Mans & Supermans? Why have those characters in at all? I live in Hollywood and can tell you that to become a Studio Exec you have to drink a lot of the Kool-Aid and soon you’re down 40 or 50 IQ points.

  32. Sean Says:

You said it Carlos! When the studios go the camp route it just destroys the franchise and then we’ll be back to waiting a decade or more before anyone will wade back into the waters and make another movie. Let’s hope WB has learned their lesson with the success of Batman Begins!

  33. srm Says:

what the f? I really wanted Ryan Reynolds for the role. He really wants the role (although i’m not sure about in a Justice League movie) He really wanted it for a solo Flash movie. Maybe there is hope yet. Either that or he only gets to have a crack at Deadpool.

  34. uhershep Says:

I’m pretty sure this Flash will go into the solo movie.

  35. JG Says:

This dork should be playing Kyle Rayner…

  36. justin Says:

He’s got a good look for BeastBoy or maybe Impluse/KidFlash, but certainly not the Flash.

  37. Anubis8 Says:

Ryan Reynolds is the PERFECT guy to play Wally, nit this idiot kid

  38. havok777 Says:

Ryan Reynolds should be the flash!!! The flash isn’t at all geeky. He’s just a flirtatious little dork ,hence, Ryan fits the role perfectly.

  39. j smith Says:

I think that’s great. He is suited to play Wally West.Wally is wise cracking and younger than his Wonder woman, superman, batman contemporaries.
