It looks as though Evan Dorkin’s fears have started to come true, as no less a hallowed scribe than David Mamet has turned to cartooning to pass the time while the writer’s strike marches on. At least, that’s what the Associated Press is claiming:
In a cartoon published Tuesday on the op-ed page of the Los Angeles Times, Mamet played the labor dispute for laughs, appearing to lampoon Writers Guild of America strikers.
The cartoon, drawn in a rough scribble, shows two men, each wearing a “WGA on Strike” button. One, with sunglasses and a palm tree-decorated shirt, says: “Whaddaya think, will we end up on the breadline?”
“I don’t touch carbohydrates,” the other cartoon figure responds.
Mamet, a Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright (”Glengarry Glen Ross”) and a screenwriter, also is creator and executive producer of the CBS TV series “The Unit.”

If Mamet’s writing comics, what do we need Bendis for?

The showrunner on his show “The Unit”, Shawn Ryan is picketing with great fervor. He’s not crossing the line to shoot the Series Finale of “The Shield” either.
Ryan is one of those ‘men’ that Mamet is always writing about. Those men with brass balls.

I’m all for the WGA in this situation….
But a little piece of my heart just broke hearing that he’s not crossing to shoot the Shield finale.

i don’t wanna overstate. Ryan said he won’t be on set, there won’t be a writer on set, he won’t edit it.. I don’t know that he was going to be ’shooting’ it. But still a very, very big sacrifice.

Mamet’s drawn little doodle-y cartoons for years. Many of them are on the Huffington Post website.

Finally FINALLY we’ll get some gooder writers.
