As JK mentioned last week, I had the opportunity to interview Charles Schulz’s son, Monte, the other week about David Michaelis’ new biography and the controvery surrounding it. I’ve got a full transcript version of our conversation up on my blog if you’re interested.
Meanwhile, last Monday’s airing of the American Masters documentary on the Peanuts cartoonist spawned a host of reviews, reflections and commentary . Editor & Publisher noted that the show helped sales of Michaelis’ book, which is still garnering strong reviews.
Elsewhere, Austin Kleon examines “The Twelve Devices of Peanuts,” as noted in Good Grief, an earlier Schulz biography. By my count, however, it misses quite a few, like Sally in school, Peppermint Patty in school, Peppermint Patty and Marcie’s relationship and Rerun on the back of his mom’s bicycle. And that’s just off the top of my head.
Finally, it appears the Fantagraphics Bookstore will be hosting an “Unseen Peanuts” exhibit towards the end of the month. There’s also an exhibit of the artist’s work, sponsored by the Schulz Museum, that’s making the rounds.

That’s such a cool dress. I’m surprised that no one has thought that up before.

I don’t think she’s bald enough to pull off that look.

I think Charlie Brown had a better figure. Actually, toothpicks have better figures.
