Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, has confirmed to Sci Fi Wire that he’ll play Black Adam in Peter Segal’s big-screen version of Shazam!

The casting is no surprise, of course. Rumors began circulating as early as May that Johnson was talking with Segal about a role in the movie. The question was which role: Black Adam or Captain Marvel. Last week, Johnson finally announced he’d meet with Segal about playing the villain.

Brandon Molale (Dodgeball) has been bandied about as Captain Marvel.

According to Sci Fi Wire, screenwriter John August (Corpse Bride, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) turned in a draft on the script on Nov. 2, in advance of the writers’ strike. Filming is expected to begin in late 2008.
