Over at ComicBloc, they’re wondering… How would Superman deal with the issue of illegal immigration?:
“He doesn’t have a choice of being neutral. He has to choose. would he go to the borders and cause chasm split to avoid any more illegals from crossing over and then singlehandedly search every state for those not belonging here. Or would he not take part in it and suffer from backlash by acting like switzerland.. No right or wrong answers here, just opinions. Which way would he lean”
“Seeing as how he’s an illegal immigrant and that the Kents took care of him, he would probably help anybody that needed it. Obviously if they were criminals, murderers, smugglers, etc Supes would take them to the proper authorities.”
“I think Superman upholds moral codes and probably adheres to the UN charter of personal rights and freedoms rather than the individual laws of whichever state / province / country he happens to be flying over… The ‘American Way’ includes ‘give me your poor, tired, huddled masses’ or something like that to this foreigner, I imagine Superman believes in that ideal. And he believes in the border patrol as well. He always gives his full support to local law enforcement officials.”
“I always see Superman as the champion of the common people. He doesn’t have to subscribe to a political ideology, policy or what. If someone’s in trouble, he helps — simple as that. Sure, there are moral boundaries and political norms, but what makes him a hero, in my humble opinion, is his willingness to cross the line to help out other people… For Superman, the issue is that there are people who are unhappy. Superman would look into why people leave their country in the first place and soon — in so many ways — he will learn that they leave because they believe there are greener pastures abroad. I can imagine him helping out local villages now, making sure they have supplies of food and water. He can even eliminate a gang boss or two when he discovers that they misappropriate public funds, and so on. Superman isn’t a border police. He is all about making people happy about where they are and what they can do.”
“He assists in the the upholding of values, not of laws IMO. When is comes to US policy, I don’t think he would feel it was his place to step in. THOUGH, being Superman he’d probably fix the hell out of Mexico (or wherever country in question) and try to prevent further problems in the US. DC should do it.”
What exactly does fix the hell out of Mexico mean…?

I think it means using his “Super-Fix-Mexican-Economic-Disparity” vision.

Maybe it’s all about the spaying and neutering?

Maybe this is why superheroes should fight things like alien invasions and giant robots instead of trying to be topical. What next, they fix the health care system and Social Security?

This is a literally insane “debate”. How would James Bond cope with an Alien Invasion? What if people had feet on their head?
What if Batman took on Al-Qaeda (ahem)?

…err, isn’t he an illegal alien?

Maybe Kryptonite exposure could render both Superman and the illegal aliens and all Central Americans sterile. The exposure would be caused by some wacky scheme by Braniac who would find a way to broadcast K-radiation via satellite or maybe just in tortillas.
Then Supes could laugh about it with Jimmy Olsen who could only save his family jewels and still report on the incident by hiding inside a lead lined monkey suit.
Months later the sole Mexican who was not rendered sterile but now had mutated sperm could start reproducing and giving birth to green kryptonite feuled robots–The Man Who Fathered Kryptonium Death.
As far as James Bond and the alien invasion, we’ve already seen that Bond would simply use a Mac to interface with the alien motherships and infect them with a virus. Didn’t you see Independence Day?
