Empire Magazine’s website has the first officially released photos from the upcoming adaptation of Wanted, Mark Millar’s Eminem-friendly supervillain version of Fight Club. Interestingly enough, their comment about the comic suggests that they’ve cut to the core of the series’ origins:
The premise of the original Wanted comic book series, which we haven’t actually read, is said to take inspiration from across the DC universe sounds like juicy material… Very excited to see how this one turns out.
Taking inspiration being, of course, the friendly way of suggesting that it’s a rip-off…

Jeez, Graeme, way to calm those posters on Millarworld who reckon you’ve got an agenda against the guy.

How can you overlook THIS quote? …
“The premise of the original Wanted comic bok series, which we actually haven’t read…”
Ahhh. Check please.

Well, it IS basically a repurposed Secret Society of SuperVillains story, right? With swearing? I mean, that’s kind of obvious to anyone who knows what the SSoSV is, isn’t it?
‘Rip-off’ is perhaps not an entirely accurate summation; it’s not like any DC story I know of, but the characters are like entirely DC supervillain + extra naughtiness (e.g. slightly profaner versions - e.g. Johnny Two-Dicks=Two-Face.)

I thought Johnny Two-Dicks was based on the Ventriloquist.

Yeah, it was originally a proposal for a SSoSV series that DC turned down.
Waste not, want not.

It’s even more obvious to everyone who remembers Mark Millar saying, in a public post on MillarWorld, “This is basically a repurposed Secret Society of SuperVillains story.”

Well, yes, but these things can be expunged - I just thought Newsarama’s new generation of dedicated blog readers needed teh truth.
