Wired magazine devotes its cover to “Manga Conquers America,” with Daniel H. Pink’s extensive article on the business of Japan’s $4.2 billion-a-year comics industry (or, “the Manga Industrial Complex”), a visual history of manga in America, by Manga: The Complete Guide author Jason Thompson and artist Atsuhisa Okura, and a quick look at different uses for global manga.
The online edition also offers a crash-course in Manga 101, and a short article by Pink about participating in a study to determine “how the eyes and brain collaborate to process complex images like the mixture of words and images found in manga.”
