Last weekend, as you may or may not remember, was ICAF, the International Comics Art Forum. The Guest of Honor for the event was Malaysian cartoonist Lat (Town Boy), and The New Straits Times reported on his trip:
Lat said he relied heavily on his experience as a journalist when drawing cartoons.
“You see things from an independent point of view.
“For example, imagine watching a football match where the home team is losing and the crowd is booing.
“Where is the cartoonist? He is sitting on the fence and can, thus, comment on both on the game as well as the booing.”
But does he join the spectators in jeering?
“Some cartoonists do, when, in fact, they should be commenting on events impartially.”
