Mike O'Brien - a Byrne avatar or merely a loyal follower? Who knows... And more importantly, should anyone this belligerent be taken seriously?

Way to go Bendis, more pornographic filth from your disturbed little mind. I hope you have the Wasp brutalized next so you can show us all how great of a writer you think you are. Make sure you find more movies and books to swipe from, too. Hack!!

Dweeze, thanks for the link to OED. Oh wait there was none. Now I can't afford a subscription to the OED, and I don't have the hard copy of the OED at my disposal--so I'll go with the m-w.com

http://m-w.com/dictionary/journalist

Main Entry:
jour·nal·ist Listen to the pronunciation of journalist
Pronunciation:
    \-nə-list\
Function:
    noun
Date:
    1693

1 a: a person engaged in journalism; especially : a writer or editor for a news medium b: a writer who aims at a mass audience
2: a person who keeps a journal

http://m-w.com/dictionary/journalism

Main Entry:
jour·nal·ism Listen to the pronunciation of journalism
Pronunciation:
    \ˈjər-nə-ˌli-zəm\
Function:
    noun
Date:
    1828

1 a: the collection and editing of news for presentation through the media b: the public press c: an academic study concerned with the collection and editing of news or the management of a news medium

2 a: writing designed for publication in a newspaper or magazine b: writing characterized by a direct presentation of facts or description of events without an attempt at interpretation c: writing designed to appeal to current popular taste or public interest

So, considering the fact that the term journalist has been around since 1693 (which predates the 1828 usage of journalism and predates the development of radio or TV) to try to counter Keller's quote with your post is a failed and poorly documented effort. Journalists and journalism are aspects of general information exchange that continually evolve, as do the respective definitions.

i love these quote/unquote dealies.

bendis is completely right about the tigra scene. if this was Powers the readers would say "that's #*&$ed up! what an awful character!" but its in avengers so its "that's #*&$ed up! what a horrible writer! he condones hitting women!"
i'm not sure if the scene was extremely appropriate for a book like avengers that is tailored to more of an all ages crowd, but i think people have blown it out of proportion.
