The L.A. Times chats with George Lucas about the long-rumored live-action Star Wars spin-off TV show:
“The Skywalkers aren’t in it, and it’s about minor characters,” Lucas said in an interview. “It has nothing to do with Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader or any of those people. It’s completely different. But it’s a good idea, and it’s going to be a lot of fun to do.”
Lucas joked that the series would be about “the life of robots” but wouldn’t let any details slip about the true premise. The “extended universe” of “Star Wars” has come to life already in Lucas-sanctioned novels, comics and games that chronicle the history of the Jedi and tell the tales of bit players in the films, such as the bounty hunters from “The Empire Strikes Back.”
The article also mentions the computer animated “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” program that’s in the works.

I’d like to think the series won’t suck, but the EU novels are generally better than Lucas’s own recent films.

Ugh! Why can’t he just leave it alone! Video Games, Comics, and Books are enough for us geeks! A crapy TV show will just ruin the image of Star Wars for the mainstream audience.

If it’s about the life of robots, will the theme be the old Droids cartoon theme? I still get that stuck in my head and I haven’t seen the series since it was on the sci-fi channel.

I wish that he’d just do episodes 7-9 and be done with it…

I don’t know about the live action show, but I can’t wait for more Clone Wars.

As long as Lucas has minimal involvement, it has a better chance of being GOOD..

You’ll find no one who dislikes the last two Star Wars (eps.2 and 3) as much as I do but I am not going to be getting down on the shows until I see them. Mainly because Lucas unfiltered sucks (eps. 1-3) but if he has to have partners (as he surely will here) he tends to rock (ep.5 for example, or the Indy Jones films). Lucas is one of those people who need a check and balance system to do great things I think.

He can’t leave it alone because its his brainchild and his moneymaker. Get half a braincell.

The desire for more more money is strong in young Lucas.

I dont get it. People complained when Lucas said Star Wars was done after the six movies saying “But we want more!” Then people complain when Lucas gives them video games, books, TV shows, etc. Thank the Force the Internet wasnt around in ‘77! I cant wait to see whats next!

I’M in the middle
1 Star wars, Empire and to a much lesser extent Jedi are classics
2. Even Jedi (much as I liked it) felt like too quick a wrap up
3 I really hated eposides 1 and 2 but liked three a lot.
So I dont hate the idea of more Star Wars but i’m not excited.

Lucas is a sell out. The last 3 movies stunk. This will stink and make tons and tons of money. When he dies his kids will run the star wars franchise even further into the ground. He should have stopped making Star Wars films with Jedi.
