Fantagraphic’s blog reported comic legend Marie Severin is recovering from a stroke which struck her on October 11th.
My pal Greg Sadowski just passed on news that legendary EC and Marvel Comics’ cartoonist/colorist/designer Marie Severin suffered a stroke last Thursday. Direct your get-well cards to her at:
Marie Severin, patient
c/o Huntington Hospital
270 Park Ave.
Huntington, NY 11743
Severin began her career at EC Comics in the 1950s as one of the great colouring pioneers, followed by a lengthly three decade stint with Marvel which included penciling, inking and colouring numerous titles. And for me personally, she is one of my inspirations to get into this industry.
All of us at Newsarama wish her a speedy recovery.

I’m so sorry to hear about this. I’ve been a big fan of Marie’s great work at Marvel since the mid-60′s. I particularly loved her humor work on Not Brand Echh and her imaginative color work that often enhanced the great artwork in Incredible Hulk and Thor. I pray for her swift recovery.

We’re thinking about you, Marie, and trying to help you get well soon. Thank you for the beauty you gave us, and we’re looking forward to hearing of your speedy recovery.
Let’s a bunch of us send her get well cards or notes, it would take only 5 minutes and as little as a 40-cent stamp. Marie’s temporary address is displayed on this page, so it would seem OK to send her our good wishes.

I hope you have a speedy recovery, Marie. Not Brand Echh was my favorite comic book as a child (and remains so to this day) and your work in it was absolutely brilliant…and still inspirational these many years later. I especially enjoyed reading Tales To Astonish 100, which you penciled, and then seeing your spoof in NBE of that issue, which you penciled as well!
