Casting began yesterday and continues today in Los Angeles for the big-budget Justice League of America movie, with a who’s who of young actors lining up to read for director George Miller.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the list of 35 to 40 actors testing for the Warner Bros. project includes Michael Angarano (Sky High), Adam Brody (The O.C.), the rapper Common, D.J. Cotrona (Windfall), Joseph Cross (Running With Scissors), Teresa Palmer (The Grudge 2), Max Thieriot (Nancy Drew), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Grindhouse), and three actors from NBC’s Friday Night Lights.
The trade paper reports that Miller is looking to cast the parts of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, Green Lantern and Martian Manhunter.

Dunno how to react here. The standard fan response would be to spaz about how young all the actors are. But if the director is George Miller… Well, he knows his stuff. Mad Max, man. Lorenzo’s Oil. Happy Fee… Mad Max 2. He’s good.
And it says in the article that they’re looking for young actors who can grow into the roles over several movies. That could work. Young and inexperienced when they first come together, then older and more effective with each sequel.

I will be absolutely stunned if this turns out to not be rubbish.

Are we sure that Miller knows the difference between the JLA and Teen Titans?

Common? Hmmmmmm We’re getting GL John Stewart here, cool!

According to previous reports there was no Aquaman or Martian Manhunter in the scripts so I’d question the accuracy of this.
As long as Brody isn’t testing for anyone but the Flash…

Adam Brody? Okay, but only if his role is “Snapper” Carr.

Not that I care which Green Lantern but I was kinda hoping for Jordan. Hell even Kyle Rayner…yes I said him.

Of the “Friday Night Lights” actors, I could see Scott Porter as Superman and Adrianne Palicki as Black Canary (who isn’t one of the choices, but still). Minka Kelly … I dunno. Maybe Zatanna or Hawkgirl.

I bet common reads for Martian manhunter. that could work.

Brody? I can see him – maybe – as Kyle Rayner, not really anyone else.

I read in Wizard that Aquaman and Martain Manhunter ARE in the film. It’s the big 7.
The thing is, while a lot of these actors look young, they are actually mostly at least in their 20s. But good god do I hope Adam Brody has nothing to do with this. Maybe the JLI, but no Adam Brody as Superman or Batman.
I would be interested to hear what Friday Night Lights actors are involved.
Gaius Charles (Smash) as John Stewart
Scott Porter (Jason Street) as Superman
and Jesse Plemons (Landry) as Wally West would be amazing. And also drool worthy.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead would make a better Mary Jane:

I would be remiss if I didn’t endorse FNL’s Scott Porter and Adrianne Palicki for the roles of Flash and Wonder Woman, respectively…
Keep in mind that while some of these actors might play teenagers on the teevee, but most of them are in their mid- to late-twenties in ‘real life.’

I just checked a bunch of the names in IMDB. Eric is right, several of these actors are around 27, which actually makes them slightly older than the characters would have been when the Justice League first formed. By the time a sequel came out they would be the same age as the characters are now. By the time a second sequel came out they would be slightly older than the superheroes they are playing.

Scott Porter keeps saying he wants to play Hal Jordan… so I’d take that. Common as Martian Manhunter? Ok. I can deal with that. Brody as the Flash? Its a longshot, but ok. Mary Winstead? I can see her as Zatana, but she’s probably testing for WW – EEEK.

This ounds like teen titans, not Justic League. Fucking lame since Warner Brothers isn’t using continuity like using the actors from the other standalone movies to fill the rolls. Just raise the budget and make it happen, they totally can do this. Get Christian Bale as Batman and Brandon Routh as Superman.

Just read the article. While I think that Scott Porter could be any of the Justice League men, I think that all of the women on the show are too waify to play Wonder Woman. Black Canary or surely Zatanna, but not the Amazonian Warrior. Then again, the acting on Firday Night Lights always impresses me, so maybe they can pull it off.

Sounds more like they’re casting Teen Titans than JLA…

Welling for Sup and I’ll be there. Smallville will have wrapped by tme JLA producion gets underway, and most are familiar with him as Clark.
only vaguely familar with Brody, rest are unknowns to me (which works), incl (rapper?) Common.
Keep GA from Smallville, if he’s in. (and I heard a pretty decent AC in Mercy Reef?)

This might not seem logical at 1st, but Adam Brody as Superman/Clark Kent would be an interesting twist.
Common as GL, I can get behind as well.
Michael Angarano as The Flash, maybe.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead – WW.
And… tthhhat’s all folks.

Uhm…not to piss anybody off b/c I’m all about Weilling as superman…but has anyone

These guys sound way too young! Is this a kiddie movie to appeal to the “High School Musical” crowd? And why aren’t they looking at someone who can fill the role of Amazon Princess? Not some pretty girl next door type.Princess Diana is not only mind-blowingly beautiful, she is regal and imposing. You have got to believe you are seeing royalty and one who is a warrior.
