Terry and the Pirates Vol. 1

The Columbus Dispatch takes a look at the resugence of interest in Milton Caniff, what with the new Terry and the Pirates collection and the big-ass biography and now, apparently, an exhibit:

Harvey will help pay homage Oct. 26-27 in Columbus at the Festival of Cartoon Art, sponsored by the Cartoon Research Library at Ohio State University.

The library has assembled the exhibits “Milton Caniff: American Master” and “School of Caniff,” both opening Monday in the Hopkins Hall Gallery.

Later this month, the Ohio Historical Center will unveil its “Spotlight on Milton Caniff” — to run Oct. 25 to March 2.

Lucy Caswell, professor and curator at the Cartoon Research Library and curator of the “American Master” exhibit, called Caniff “an Irishman who kissed the Blarney stone.”

“He had a genuine sense of humor, twinkly blue eyes, and he was a marvelous storyteller,” she said. “We visited him (at his home) in New York before he died (in 1988), and he told one story after another about working at The Dispatch.

Is the “new” Terry & the Pirates still around, or did it bite the dust a while ago?
