Sequential Tart talks with writer Sean McKeever about his plans for DC’s Teen Titans and Birds of Prey:
ST: Do you see a return to a more all-ages approach, as in Young Justice and some of your Marvel work, or will the book continue along the more adult themes of Johns’ run?
SM: It will definitely be more along Johns’ tone. I’ve had my fill of all-ages type material for the time being. That said, even when I’m writing more mature themes and drama, I never pass up an opportunity to have fun. My favorite types of stories are bittersweet, so you’ll definitely be seeing wonderment mixed in with the worry.
ST: What villains will you be using? Guest stars? How long will the first story arc be?
SM: We’re opening the book with a huge, splashy story the likes of which I’ve never written before, and I have to say it’s been a blast. The first arc was going to be three issues, but now it’s running for four because we had so much craziness going on! So that will run through #54, and both the Teen Titans and the Titans of Tomorrow will be dealing with the threat of Starro, the Star Conqueror.
But after that, I want to slow it down a little and take some time exploring the characters, as with BoP. I especially want to focus on Miss Martian, Ravager, and Kid Devil and take a look at what they’re up to when they’re not with the Titans.
McKeever’s tenure on Birds of Prey begins with December’s Issue 113.
