As mentioned last Friday, the character Lisa Moore from the comic strip Funky Winkerbean passed away today due to complications from breast cancer. Tom has a round-up of stories and other info.
I also did a story on Lisa’s death for The Patriot-News, which gave me the opporunity to interview cartoonist Tom Batiuk and Comics Curmudgeon guru Josh Fruhlinger. You can’t find it on the paper’s Web site for some mysterious reason, but I’ve got a somewhat unedited version up on my blog if you’re interested.

what I wanna know is how the cast is fast-forwarding 10 years? I enjoyed it the with the current news and events tied, plus the occasional Crankshaft crossover. and what about the comic book guy? whats he going to be reading??

The Lisa storyline was heartwrenching–and given the context, far more daring than mainstream transgressive art.
As to “whats he going to be reading??” in ten years:
Final Crisis II.

Interesting that John Byrne wasn’t mentioned as one of the artists working on this storyline. I guess the retailer conspiracy has extended to the online comic websites, as well.
