Biel or no Biel? (Answer: No Biel)

Jessica Biel

The big news this week was that Jessica Biel was in talks for the role of Wonder Woman in the Justice League of America movie. Well, now EW.com is reporting that the actress passed on the role:

EW has learned that actress Jessica Biel has decided to pass on playing Wonder Woman in Warner Bros. live-action adaptation of Justice League of America. The former 7th Heaven star had been in early talks to play the Amazonian princess. She’s currently shooting the drama Powder Blue with Forest Whitaker.

I’m not all that disappointed. While Biel is gorgeous, I don’t think she’d make a good Wonder Woman. There are also rumors that Victoria Hill is wanting to play Wonder Woman, and I think she “looks” the part more than Biel.

In other casting news:

It looks like Punisher: War Zone is pretty much done casting. I’ll give you the good first: Dominic West is playing Jigsaw. West is a great actor and I’m sure he’ll do an awesome job with the character.

Wayne Knight — Newman from Seinfeld — is playing Microchip. T.J. Storm is cast as Maginty. Talk about a flawless casting job there, who better right? I’ll give you the neutral next. Colin Salmon is playing Agent Paul Budiansky and Doug Hutchison will be playing Loony Bin Jim. I don’t know enough about either actors to feel either way about it. Now the bad. First, Dash Mihok has been cast as Detective Martin Soap. Dash Mihok is best known as Benvolio in Romeo + Juliet. He also plays one of the cavemen in the ABC adaptation of the Geico caveman commercials. Horrible, horrible, horrible choice.

I know that Steve Dillon can’t draw people all that well, but did they really have to cast someone who looks like every character that has ever appeared in anything that Steve Dillon has ever drawn? Worst of all, Ray Stevenson was cast as Frank Castle. Dear God, I’d rather see Dolph Lundgren again over this guy. He played Titus Pullo on Rome … and was in the awful King Arthur movie that was released a few years ago. Other than the fact that the director is actually kind of cute-hot, I really starting to have no faith in this movie.

In The Spirit-related news, according to SSH, Sarah Paulson has been cast as Dr Ellen Dolan.

So I’m guessing you never actually watched Rome did you?

The casting on the Punisher sounds very strong, and that guy looks right for the part of Soap, I do not see your anger. He certainly looks like the character I just hope that he is written as a bit of a loser instead of being too suave. I imagine he’ll contrast with Budiansky.
Interesting that pretty much every single character from this Punisher movie is from the books.

As for Biel not playing Wonder Woman, good move on her part. The role is the female super-hero ideal that not a single person knows how to write. The role in the movie is going to be just as much of a mess as it is in the comics and it would be damaging to her still growing career. I think she could have pulled it off but I doubt the material would be there for her to really shine.

Victoria Hill? Man, she looks like my kid sister. While Biel wasn’t my choice at all, she did have strong features and was never really that soft looking.

I think the casting for War Zone looks great, and I really liked Ray Stevenson on Rome.

It’s sort of odd how they use characters from the comics, but from separate story arcs. I suppose this is to stay true to the comic, but if the characters don’t have anything to do with one another does it still make sense? I guess I didn’t have a problem with Flass being tubby, so it doesn’t matter.
