I’ve been meaning to post this for the last week or so, but over at his forum, Brian Wood has posted his initial notes for the “Public Works” arc for DMZ. And when I say notes, I mean it - These are handwritten ideas about what the arc was meant to be about:
There were many more pages that came after that broke each issue down individually and in much greater detail, but I always think there is some entertainment value to seeing something in its extreme first draft. I write this total stream-of-consciousness on a single 8×11 sheet of paper, probably around the time I was writing DMZ #11.
If you look at the lack of anything for issue 5, clearly I decided not to sweat the ending at this point - but I did have the very last scene of the arc pretty much decided on.
