Variety reports that Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnoud’s animated Persepolis – based on Satrapi’s graphic novels — has been selected to represent France at the Academy Awards.

The movie, which shared the Jury Prize at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, has grossed more than $9 million. It will close the New York Film Festival on Oct. 14.
