Like this scene? Sorry, but it won’t be in the movie

From the "Iron Man" teaser

Remember that cool sequence in the Iron Man teaser trailer in which Ol’ Shellhead outraces a couple of fighter jets? Well, enjoy it in the trailer, because it won’t be in the movie.

Variety reports that Industrial Light & Magic created the scene specifically for the Comic-Con promotional reel, which then became the teaser trailer (released on Monday).

As the trade paper points out, it’s not unheard of for a trailer to show something that doesn’t actually appear in the movie. It’s a ploy used to get potential viewers excited. And, hey, it worked.

  1. Scott William Foley Says:

It certainly worked on me. The trailer has got me very excited to see the complete movie.

  2. CodeGuy Says:

Sometimes it’s cool when they make stuff just for a trailer. If they can get across the feel of the movie without giving something away, that’s awesome.

  3. SuperActionGo Says:

Yeah, I agree. Frankly, that scene played like something that would be at the end of the movie, right before the credits, so it doesn’t seem like we’re losing anything crucial. And it did look great.

  4. Mysterious Stranger Says:

This story reminded me of the trailer for the first Power Rangers movie that showed the White Ranger in his uniform, sky-surfing, a scene that’s nowhere in the movie. The White Ranger does skyboard or whatever but NOT in his uniform which really bummed me out. That short sequence from the trailer was really cool. And this one from the Iron Man trailer is cool too. But if this is the quality of stuff they are just “throwing out” and won’t be used in the film just imagine what they are saving for opening weekend!

  5. Kevin Moore Says:

George Lucas has a tendency to get me excited about stuff that turns out to suck. I reserve my pound of salt.

  6. Mark Engblom Says:

Makes sense, since some of the CGI work in that sequence looked a bit rough (particularly Iron-Man’s telltale CGI movement quirks).

  7. Ian Says:

I guess the scene plays as too confrontational to just put it at the end of the movie like the random Spider-Man swinging scenes they do.

Then again, they should find SOMEWHERE to cram it in. Afterall, its pretty cool.

Jon Faverau has commented regarding this story on his Myspace Group page:

“It’s in the movie. It’s true that the shots were rushed for Comic Con, but the F-22 dogfight has been in the works for over a year and was the furthest along of the film’s set pieces. That’s how we were able to get it on the screen nearly a year before the premiere.”

  9. Paul Says:

I only hope that if the scene’s not in the movie, it’ll be in the extra footage of the DVD release.

I was so sorry to find out the original Spider-man movie web-between-the-two-towers teaser had been removed for sensitivity reasons, and never officially brought back to light. I thought it was a nice, light-hearted way to remember something, beyond the tragedy.
