Creator Q&A: Frank Quitely

September 10th, 2007
Author Kevin Melrose

At last month’s Toronto Fan Expo, IGN.com talked briefly with artist Frank Quitely about All-Star Superman:

IGN Comics: Can you give us any hints for the direction in which it’s going?

Quitely: All I can tell you is that in issue nine that I’m working on just now, Superman comes back from Bizarro World and there are two Kryptonians that have taken over his role on Earth. He realizes that things aren’t quite as hunkey-dorey as everybody thinks they are. I can’t tell you more than that because I’ve only got the first eleven pages of script and I’m nearly done with them. When I go back home I’ll get the second eleven. I don’t actually have a clue what’s happening.

IGN Comics: What would you like to see happen?

Quitely: I would like to see Superman either in outer-space for the last three [issues], or in the snowy wastes, or in the desert — anywhere that doesn’t involve a background. I don’t doubt Grant will have him in a bloody antique shop or something like that.

All-Star Superman #9 is due out in October.

They’re wearing purple and yellow. To me, that implies the involvement of a certain imp from another dimension.
