Comic Addiction talks with Ben Templesmith about his favorite comics, branching out into writing, and his new miniseries, 30 Days of Night: Red Snow:
As the whole world will shortly find out via the movie, 30 Days really is a brilliant concept coupled with a bit of a new visual take on the old vampire stereotype created by Steve Niles and myself. The movie is remarkably true to the comic I think, in what made it tick. 30 days of darkness up near the Arctic Circle in Alaska. Vampires attack. It’s a survivalist tale to me.
Where Red Snow comes in I guess is that it is similar to the original story, just set during a different period, in a different place. Up north in Russia on the Eastern Front of WW2, though instead of just vamps it has got Nazis and Commies as well. I just wanted to take the property back to its roots a little since it has strayed a little in concept since the first story. IDW offered to let me write as well as draw a mini, close to the film, and I actually had a story in the back of my head for something, so I jumped at the chance.
The first issue of 30 Days of Night: Red Snow is due in stores this week.
