Japanator has posted (and translated) a Super Mario manga that ran in Shogaku Ninensei (Grade School Sophomore) magazine way back in 1987. The plot involves Bowser leading Mario and Princess Peach through a dangerous maze or some such nonsense. Plus there’s some other nifty items, like an ad for Dragon Quest III (at least I think it’s an ad). You can find more scans from the magazine in question here.

This just makes me wish Nintendo would license a Mario comic (the ‘Super Mario World’-based manga that ran in Nintendo Power a few years back was sweet).
I mean, it’d be the perfect thing to get kids -and even non-comic reading gamers- into comics, plus the ‘Mario’ series has such a HUGE variety of characters, they could come up with countless stories without rehashing game plots.
At least, it’d be the perfect place to reuse characters from the RPG games that may never get the time of day in the game anymore.
What a waste that they haven’t done a new one yet.
