MTV.com chats with Ryan Reynolds about what superhero he’d most like to play on the big screen … beating out the Flash is Marvel’s Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool:
“It’s a very tricky character to do,” Reynolds sighed. “It’s hard R. It’s ambiguous whether he’s good or bad. He’s a mercenary. This is all to say nothing of the fact that his face is made entirely of scar tissue.
“These are huge issues,” the 30-year-old actor deadpanned. “Hopefully, there’ll be [somebody] who has the balls to go there and make a really authentic, decent ‘Deadpool’ movie.”
Bale won’t do Batman without Nolan
Also via the MTV blog, Christian Bale says he won’t do a Batman movie without director Christopher Nolan, who brought us the wonderful Batman Begins. That would include any kind of JLA movie, apparently … which he says he knows nothing about:
As absurd as it may seem, it’s sounding more and more like someone besides Christian Bale will soon take flight in the Batman cowl. With a hastily produced “Justice League of America” movie speeding through preproduction, casting is about to begin — and when we posed the question on Tuesday to the man who reinvented the character for “Batman Begins,” he confirmed that the “Justice League” train is moving right past him.
“I don’t really know anything about it,” Bale said of the “JLA” flick, which has already begun approaching such actors as Ryan Reynolds to fill hero roles. “No, there’s been no talk with me about ‘Justice League’; it’s only [reporters] who mention this to me.”
BusinessWeek looks at summer’s big losers
Even though this summer saw plenty of reasons for Hollywood to celebrate, BusinessWeek rains on the parade with a look at the biggest losers from the year so far … most notably Evan Almighty and Stardust:
Then, there’s Stardust, the just released Paramount (VIA) fantasy film that stars Robert DeNiro as a cross-dressing pirate who roams the sky in search of lightning (don’t ask) and Michelle Pfeiffer as a super-evil witch queen. The film is also Hollywood at its worst: Sign on a bunch of big names, give them a totally incomprehensible script, and expect moviegoers to figure it out. Well, that didn’t happen either. And the film, made for somewhere north of $70 million, is DOA with less than $20 million in ticket sales. Who green-lights this stuff? At least Paramount was smart enough to spread the risk among other investors, so they will share the loss.

Reynolds + DeadPool= Perfect.

Nope – Billy West as voice of Deadpool = Perfect

Not every comic book character needs to be made into a movie. Deadpool is a perfect example of this.

With the right director, a Deadpool movie could be amazing and groundbreaking. We don’t have a lot of superhero comedies, and it would be neat to see one breaking the fourth wall. Not only does Wade know that he’s a comic book character, but that he’s a movie one as well. A Deadpool movie could also be completely abyssmal. It just depends on what direction the movie takes.

Stardust was “totally incomprehensible”??
Well now I feel smart for understanding it.
But pissed that most idiots didn’t.
It stayed true to the book and it was a really good time. It’ll kill in DVD sales.
All is good.

Movie or no, Reynolds Gets It.
August 24th, 2007 at 11:59 am
I agree with the earlier poster, not every comic book character needs a movie. When you start diluting the genre with movie after movie, you start turning out classics such as CATWOMAN, ELEKTRA, HULK, DAREDEVIL, etc. Before movie on to some of these lesser known, howabout getting us a WONDER WOMAN, FLASH, GREEN LANTERN, CAPTAIN AMERICA, non-sucky SUPERMAN, etc….

Dan Coyle: Does Reynolds get it? He talks about the violence and the scars, but not about the comedy…that he’s basicly Bugs Bunny with a whole lotta guns. Without that, he’s just the Punisher with acne.

I agree with you partly goodball, but those movies failed not becase of the source material, but the execution. All that matters is the final product and any of those could have been good movies. Well I thought Daredevil was good, but Catwoman and the rest were pretty bad, but all you need is a good script, and good acting.

deadpool would be an awesome movie. He’s got ninja skills, kinda looks like Spider-Man, and talks alotof trash. TheMTV/Jack Ass Generation would love this

In principle a Deadpool movie sounds great, and Reynolds would be perfect.
In reality, I’ve never seen a succesful superhero-esque comedy (not even Mystery Men) on the big screen, and the fourth wall shtick could end up like the Last Action Hero.
August 24th, 2007 at 1:43 pm
Deadpool would be a hilarious movie.
And Stardust was NOT incomprehensible. Who let the retard start reviewing movies? It was easy enough to grasp and a pretty good movie.

Scavenger: With Reynolds, I think the comedy is assumed. Given his career it’s a safe bet that he appreciates the comedy.
I think the reason he didn’t mention it was because he was talking about the things that would make the comic hard to make into a movie. The commedy just wasn’t part of that conversation, or at least not part of what was printed in the article.

Why do people want Ryan Reynolds in movies like this? He’s not the least bit funny, he’s aggravating as all hell, and he couldn’t act scared if you pointed a gun at him.
If we want to talk about signing on a bunch of big names for no reason, look at any movie he’s been in. Absolute shit, but they keep green-lighting them.
August 25th, 2007 at 1:50 am
Jay, I wouldn’t say he’s a big name. People respect him in comic circles because he’s obviously a comic fan.
I’m not the biggest fan of the guy myself. I’ve never found him very funny either. But everything I’ve read from him on forums and in interviews made him seem like a really nice guy who cares about comics. That’s worth some respect.
August 25th, 2007 at 7:06 am
And there’s truth to that, it is to be commended if he really likes comics.
I just wouldn’t want him in a Justice League movie or anything.
August 25th, 2007 at 8:23 pm
I hate seeing Hulk bundled in with Catwoman, Daredevil and Elektra. But that’s an argument for another board.
I think Reynold’s is maybe a better fit for Flash, plus I’d bet there’d be a lot more people lining up for a Flash movie than a Deadpool one.
August 26th, 2007 at 9:25 am
Not all of Ryan’s movies have been great but I loved Van Wilder, Just Friends and Waiting. And I’m sorry but I thought he was hilarious with Richard Ruccolo on Two Guys and a Girl…
August 26th, 2007 at 9:58 pm
Reynolds does get Deadpool on all its levels. During the press junket for Blade Trinity at Wizardworld Texas he stated he would love to do Deadpool and he based his Hannibal King sarcasitic wit on Deadpool more than anything else.
August 28th, 2007 at 12:54 pm
I think it’d be good movie and seeing him break the forth wall as a movie character as well as a comic book character would probably be something worth payin for
