Tom Brevoort tries to quell fan suspicions about the Millar/Hitch Fantastic Four:
[W]hile I can’t necessarily put every fear you may have to rest, I can tell you that Mark and Bryan have been working on the book for several months now. Mark’s already turned in nine scripts (some of them only in first draft form, and needing at least one minor revision—but written nonetheless.) And I’ve got in hand three full finished issues of pencils from Bryan, and he’s already a good portion of the way into the fourth—not to mention the first nine cover images. So at least at the outset, any delay of service should be minimal.
Of course, they said the same thing about Ultimates 2…

Of course, part of the reason the last issue was so late was the other parts of the creative team; editorial couldn’t get the work onto the inker’s schedule, as he had to take other work while waiting for Hitch to finish. So who knows what will happen this time.
But I’m still excited.

I look forward to many more years of Dwayne McDuffie’s Fantastic Four.

Amazing…Brevoort has to make excuses for and prop up Millar and Hitch before even a single issue is solicited. Not a good sign…we’ll see if retailer ordes reflect that same wariness.

Millar’s already said that if it comes down to it, there’ll be fill-ins by other artists. So no room for any “Boy, is Hitch slow” cynicism.

Brevoort can come off like a real dick when it comes to scheduling and people having legitimate concerns over a team like Millar and Hitch.
House of M, Civil War, New Avengers until Yu, and Mighty Avengers were/are all Brevoort’s responsibilities and all were late. So people can be justified in wondering why a team that has been so late, coupled with and editor who can’t get punctuality out of his creators, is being given a monthly book.
And remember, fill-in artists suck.

He didn’t make excuses. He addressed the concerns people have by showing that they’ve done extra work to keep those problems from reoccurring. That’s the exact *opposite* of excuses.

CodeGuy is right, he’s just trying to address concerns. Now if only he’ll address the concern of having my favorite team written by the guy who thought it would be in character for Mr. Fantastic to clone Thor and for Sue to sleep with him one last time for his HEALTH before leaving him, I’d be way happier.

That’s true, CodeGuy, but they said pretty much the same thing before ULTIMATES 2 – they even pushed it back several months from the original launch date in order to guarantee that it would ship monthly – and it still drifted off schedule by over a year.
Maybe it will be different this time, but I’ll believe it when I see it.
