Kamandi, the Last Boy on Earth, by Paul Pope

Paul Pope uploads to his Flickr account a couple of wonderful illustrations of Jack Kirby’s Kamandi, and reveals something that likely will make a lot of fans say, “Aw, man“: “At one point, Brian Azzarello and I were in the queue to get KAMANDI, THE LAST BOY ON EARTH — from DC Comics … this and that happened and I decided on Batman: Year 100, Azz went on to Loveless …”

    My brain just imploded.

    Awesome.

Thank god this didn’t happen. His version of Kamandi is pretty awful: flat face, awful lips. I’ve never understood Pope’s appeal and this doesn’t do anything to chance my mind.

Not that I wouldn’t mind a decent Kamandi series, mind you. Just one with art I can look at for more than 2 seconds without shaking my head.
