…that’s always debatable, but I’m having a hard time thinking of a Marvel comic that I’m enjoying more at the moment. It’s one of those titles where the creative team and direction outweigh any B-grade baggage that the character was lugging around … kind of like when Mark Waid wrote that awesome run on Ka-Zar back in the late 1990s.
The Columbia Dispatch takes a look at the first Iron Fist collection:
Iron Fist has been a bit player in the Marvel Universe since he was created to cash in on a kung-fu craze during the 1970s. When his comic-book series petered out in the early ’80s, the character all but disappeared, making infrequent guest appearances in more-popular heroes’ books.
So he seems an unlikely candidate to star in Marvel’s best comic of the year.
But the character’s revival in the new series The Immortal Iron Fist has been a genre-busting, energetic mash-up that combines Enter the Dragon kung-fu action with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon mysticism and James Bond intrigue. The Last Iron Fist Story hardcover collects the first six issues of the series.
The article also has reviews of the Vertigo book Silverfish and First Second’s Notes from a War Story.

If you’re not counting Power Pack &….
then, yes, yes, it is. Absolutely.

One of the best, that’s for sure. I’d also put Criminal and Daredevil on that list…hmm, I’m seeing a common thread there.

X-Factor is, plain and simple.

Yes, X-Factor is plain and simple, but that has no bearing on Iron Fist being the best book coming from Marvel these days.

Nope, Iron Fist is a great title, but X-Factor is the best thing Marvel outs on the stands, and it’s far from being a plain and simple comic.

I like X-Factor well enough but it’s a bottom of the pile book for me (Priest’s Black Panther is the definition of a bottom of the pile book I loved).
Iron Fist is a top of the pile book.

Isn’t being the best Marvel title kind of like being the skinniest person at fat camp?
