But what about Dwayne?

Fantastic Four

So when I read the news about Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch’s run on Fantastic Four, my first thought was, “What about Dwayne McDuffie?” McDuffie, of course, is knee-deep in a very cool run on Marvel’s first family, so I was kind of bummed that he was apparently being cut loose so the Ultimates team could take over.

Turns out, though, that he isn’t being cut at all. As he told Comic Book Resources, the whole thing was planned when he took over the title:

“[The editorial staff at Marvel] were kind enough to let me see the scripts, many of which were done before I even started, so I kind of knew where [Millar] was going. It’s going to be cool. Oh, yeah, I will be reading it,” said McDuffie, who told CBR News that he knew his run on Marvel’s first family would be limited from the outset.

“That was the whole purpose of me coming onboard,” explained McDuffie, who started his run in January of this year with #542. “I was just making some extra time for those guys.”

Up next for McDuffie, besides his run on Justice League, are more TV shows and “a couple of little projects” he’s pitching to Marvel and DC. “I have had a fair shot at pretty much everybody, but I wouldn’t mind saying ‘Hello’ to some old friends, if that opportunity came up,” McDuffie told CBR.

So let the speculation begin. I wouldn’t mind seeing more Damage Control or Milestone myself …

More Damage Control would be awesome.

Well, in that case, he should probably be on for the next two or three years…as Bryan Hitch meanders and dithers his way through his page count.

Yes, a Milestone comics comeback would be tremendous, I say a Milestone earth among the 52 new earths in the multiverse would be terrific!

So glad McDuffie is leaving; can’t wait for the Storm and Black Panther to exit and for Millar and Hitch to start their run.

I don’t pick up the Fantastic Four to read about whatever favorite characters the author has shoehorned into the book. The only exception being when Byrne brought in She-Hulk. For whatever reason it just worked.

I do look forward to McDuffie on JLA and would love to see more Milestone, but that ship may have indeed sailed.
