Matthew Vaughn is reaching past the stars for the Rainbow Bridge. Variety says that the Stardust director has been tapped to direct Marvel’s adaptation of Thor:
Marvel Studios is setting Matthew Vaughn to direct “Thor,” based on the Marvel Comics character. Marvel is aiming for a pre-strike production start this winter.
Mark Protosevich (”I Am Legend”) did the adaptation of the comicbook franchise that launched in 1962.
Vaughn, who previously directed Layer Cake, was set to direct the third X-Men movie but had to give it up for personal reasons, Variety says. Too bad; maybe if he had, the L.A. Times wouldn’t be writing articles with headlines that read “Why the Web hates Ratner.”

As that TV Hulk photo reminds us, there’s nowhere to go on a movie adaptation of Thor than UP. Wow…that was some astonishingly bad stuff.
But the Thor movie? Sign me up.

I liked the TV movie at the time. Seeing that image makes me never want to see it again, because I know the reality won’t live up to my memories.
I was credulous when I saw the Thor movie announcement, but the choice of director is encouraging. Stardust looks good enough in the commercials that he should be capable of at least handling the technical requirements of doing a Thor movie.

Selling the Thor concept to movie goers could pose to be a challenge in the believability of the film

Sometimes to enjoy a movie, one must suspend all disbelief and allow his imagination to roam. Believability is not a necessity with a comic superhero…
