Italian fashion designer Miuccia Prada was so impressed with the 2004 “3D Live animation” movie Appleseed, she offered to design two costumes for heroine Deunan Knute, in the upcoming sequel, Appleseed: Ex Machina.
From Fashion Television:
“Watching the previous ‘Appleseed,’ I thought that the expression of contrast in man and machine, violence and love was wonderful,” the designer said at a press conference here earlier this month. “I designed something contemporary that matches the movie’s feelings.”
The latest trailer for Appleseed: Ex Machina, highlights the Prada designs as we ll as a wee bit of action.
It seems like Appleseed was a big inspiration for Prada. Several fashion publications noted that Prada’s 2006 fall collection, Metropolitan Armor, clearly shows the designer drew some of her futuristic and cyberpunk influences from Appleseed.

Suite 101 noted:
Replacing her perfectly groomed 50s lady was an intellectual-looking student type, off to a graduate seminar in politics clad in short sweater dresses made from somber gray chunky knits. “There was no mistaking the new attitude that was unleashed at Prada for fall,” Style.com wrote about the collection. “It charged out of the gate, looking young, angry, sexy, and serious—and dressed to tackle real life. ‘I’m tired of being so sweet,’ declared Miuccia Prada. ‘We women should go back to strength—and the sober side. Stop trying to appeal to everyone, and go out into the world.’”

There are other big names attached to Masamune Shirow’s Appleseed: Ex Machina. The producer is famed Hong Kong filmmaker John Woo. Academy Award winning composer Ryuichi Sakamoto, electronica DJ Towa Tei, and alternative rocker Cornelius, a combination of music talent that could explain the eclectic nature of the trailer’s soundtrack. Coincidentally, model Mana Ota, of Prada’s Miu Miu line of clothing, also has some voice work in the movie.
Theatrical release in Japan is October 20th, 2007 and the film will be distributed internationally by Warner Bros.

As if giant mecha weren’t expensive enough, now the uniforms are Prada? I have seen the future and it rains money. Good luck with the second mortgage, convention cos-players.
