IESB.net has a “first-look featurette” of Avengers Reborn — formerly Teen Avengers – Marvel’s upcoming direct-to-DVD animated movie that stars the children of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

Several decades in the future, Ultron defeats all the superheroes, so now their children — mentored by Tony Stark — must avenge their parents.

Avengers Reborn is due out in summer 2008.

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

Marvel please dont go the DC route and turn all your best comic properties into animation aimed at kids

Well, since kids don’t really read comics anymore (not in the great numbers they did in the past), the only way they’re exposed to the characters is through TV shows and movies.

It’s not my ideal vehicle for “passing them on” to another generation, but it beats the alternative of them never discovering these great characters. I realize none of this stuff (the animated Teen Titans and now Avengers Reborn) isn’t aimed at me or the rest of my rapidly aging demographic…so I don’t expect any of these projects to appeal or call out to me.

  5. Adam Jones Says:

This isn’t aimed at me, but I don’t care.

    Yuck.

  6. Matt M. Says:

I have seen the future. And it is oddly-proportioned.

Spot on! How dare they try to market cartoons to kids! Next thing you know, they’ll start marketing toys to children as well! Oh, wait…

  8. Kyle Cowstar Says:

    That looks horrid.

  9. Skyhawk Says:

Reminds of Extreme Avengers! That blew chunks as well.

  10. Skyhawk Says:

Reminds me of the Fox Kids Avengers cartoon. That blew chunks as well.

  11. Mike Thompson Says:

    Absolute $#!+

  12. Ian Astheimer Says:

The Fox cartoon was “Avengers: United They Stand.”

  13. Toneloak Says:

I think adult heroes can and do (insert sensationalized term here) with kids.

It worked for me.(SS, FF, IM, X-M, SM GI-J E, GB). Watched many of those before I was ten.

This is just a crappy designs and concepts(I wouldn’t develop it). It would make since if they had some adults to offset the kids, like parent or something. Or if they go the TT, Kim Possible, or Naruto route and have the adults seem like bad guys or betters to surpass. But, i think kids will know the original characters well enough to feel this is talking down to them and a waste of every bodies time.

Unless they have a really good director who has a really dedicated approach and some original themes to play off. Otherwise it’ll just be the “Marvel” Legion of Superheroes.

Funny thing is I think this would work in a live action series.

  14. Adam Hoffman Says:

I think this looks like a lot of fun. I love the whole “new generation of heroes” thing.

You guys are just such old stiffs. It’ll be a blast!

  15. Steve Flanagan Says:

So Captain America made a donation at the sperm bank before he was killed, then?

  16. longshot7 Says:

I can pick out a female Thor-alike, a teen Cap, and a seeming Iron Man/Wasp hybrid kid – but who’s the black kid supposed to be? Hawkeye & the Falcon’s kid?

The black kid is likely Black Panther’s son. If so, the character is an appropriate nod to Marvel continuity since:

    1. The MC2 line has T’Challa’s son becoming a superhero:

    2. In Fantastic Four, the Watcher hinted that Black Panther and Storm will have kids.

Storm’s a skrull. For really reals.

  19. Hokeyboy Says:

“Marvel please dont go the DC route and turn all your best comic properties into animation aimed at kids”

Yeah because those Ultimate Avengers DVDs have been sooooooooo good. Right…

  20. Fred Says:

    “Spencer Carnage

A year later, and some people STILL can’t get over Storm marrying Black Panther.

Please don’t let your reason be because:

    1. Black Panther is Black or

    2. Since her wedding, Storm is actually acting like a human being again instead of a Vulcan.

  21. Dean Trippe Says:

Ugh. Why do this when they could do Young Avengers?

Also, not to be harsh, but these costumes all get a big official Project: Rooftop thumbs down from me.

  22. John Says:

Marvel is going to loose money if they come out with crape like this. Turning the Mavel Avengers Reborn in to a stupid Kids Marvel cartoon is the dummist thing they could do, I bought Ultimate Avengers, Ultimate Avengers 2, Iron Man, Doctor Strange and they are eccellent movies with good adventure happening. If This comes out the way they say it will I will no longer Buy any Marvel Avengers again.

  23. Swan Says:

The first two Anengers kick ass, you have think the third one is going to as well even if there aiming for a younger crowd…

  24. Drae Says:

I understand what they’re trying to do, but there are plenty of gray spots. They still have a LOT of marvel fans who are 25 and over that have been marvel fans for years and still haven’t really seen the full potential of what the marvel universe has to offer. Why copy from DC? You’re giving them the impression that you’re running out of ideas and at this rate they definitely have a chance to catch up. THEY WEREN’T KIDS WHEN WE WERE GROWING UP AS KIDS, SO WHY MAKE THEM KIDS NOW?!

  25. Dean Trippe Says:

Yeah, do the character designs before writing a script. Great thinking.

Why do they keep letting these people make their animated films? Ugh.
