Ocean

Maybe we should just start listing the comics that haven’t been picked up by Hollywood … Variety reports that Ocean, by Warren Ellis and Chris Sprouse, has been optioned:

Hollywood Gang’s Gianni Nunnari and Nick Wechsler have teamed to option screen rights to “Ocean,” a graphic novel by Warren Ellis that is a template for a big-scale alien thriller.

Nunnari and Wechsler will produce, and Craig J. Flores is exec producing.

Story concerns the thousands of coffins containing angel-like bodies, and a giant weapon of mass destruction, discovered by a scientist on Jupiter’s ice-covered moon Europa. A U.N. weapons inspector sent to investigate uncovers a chilling secret about the history of humanity.

Ocean was published by Wildstorm in 2004. Newsarama first reported on the Hollywood Gang’s interest in it back in February. The group is also working on bringing Frank Miller’s Ronin to film.

Personally, I want to see an Orbiter movie.

I would chop off my foot for a Planetary series.

  3. Robot House Brian Says:

Considering OCEAN read like a mediocre made-for-Sci-Fi Saturday night movie (with fantastic art from Sprouse), I’m not surprised. I only hope that if they do make it, they can do something to actually make it entertaining.

    Robot House Brian-

Seriously! The transport discs, as drawn by Sprouse, were fantastic, but the rest of the series was plotless. It read exactly like what it was: Ellis recycling clippings of interesting science articles into a “story”. I mean, what was the ending?
The “angels” are all bad, and to prevent them from falling into a bad company’s hands, they’re all blown up? At the very least, it would be nice to SEE the “angels” actually doing something.

I’d like to echo the sentiment, I’d much rather see an Orbiter movie.

  6. skeletorjr Says:

I’d rather see a movie about Billy Ocean

“I’d rather see a movie about Billy Ocean”

“Love really hurts without you” is a nifty pop song.
