Marvel’s second-quarter net income rose 78 percent — to $29.1 million — from the same period last year, thanks to licensing, toy sales and the publishing division.
The company’s Spider-Man 3 joint-merchandising venture with Sony spurred the boost in licensing income to $36.7 million, up from $19.9 million in the second quarter of 2006.
Publishing income rose 41 percent $14.7 million, due largely to the success of Civil War and Dark Tower: The Gunslinger Born.
Toy sales income rose to $10.7 million from $3.3 million, but net sales fell to $19.3 million from $25.4 million.
