I'd say we're a ways away from the standard format DVD going the way of the dodo. There was a big leap in quality from VHS to DVD, and that still took a long while to phase the VHS out. I haven't seen that great of a difference in the new formats. They're interesting, yes, but I already have a substantial DVD collection and the costs of upgrading are way too high right now, and I doubt I'm alone in this.
