Spin-Off - Something, such as a product, that is derived from something larger and more or less unrelated; a byproduct. - answers.com

Welcome to the first edition of Spin-Offs. Spin-Offs is a new, weekly article looking at things inspired by comics. I imagine the bulk of my features will have licensed products, but hopefully I can find something off the beaten path to post here. I want to have fun with this so here we go!

We girls can do anything, right Kara?

Bejeweled Supergirl Swarovski

Los Angeles based boutique Intuition, “Catering to celebrities and Hollywood wives”, struck a deal with Warner Bros. to launch an exclusive line of clothing and knick-knacks created by several manufacturers.

The Supergirl collection of merchandise includes an S-shield diamond necklace by D’Annunzio; tees, tanks and hoodies by Junk Food Clothing; halter sundresses by FEW; limited edition flip-flops by Havaianas; ballet flats with Jibbitz by Crocs; a sport bag by Crocs; Bejeweled Swarovski embellished tees; embroidered painter hats by Goorin Bros. and gold charm necklaces by White Trash Charms. Products range from $23 to $1000 USD. The Bejeweled Supergirl Swarovski T-Shirt (shown to the right) retails for $130. I’m currently trying to convince my boyfriend I need some of the shirts. For… umm… work! Yes… work.

So what is the appeal of Supergirl? Intuition has this to say:

Show the world how powerful you are with the adorable new SUPERGIRL fashion collection! The line is based on the universally recognized symbol of strength and leadership – the S-shield, and celebrates the power of independence and self expression of today’s young woman. Fans include Molly Sims, Taryn Manning, Gabrielle Reece, and Tori Spelling.

The line was even kicked off at a glitzy, celebrity-filled Hollywood event:

I wish that news reel actually featured more of the merchandise, instead of chitter chatter from famous people. Do you think any of those celebrities read the Supergirl comics?

Speaking of girls…

My brother (not a girl), a good source for all things dolly, phoned me up and said three words, “BLACK CANARY BARBIE”. No pictures yet, but she was confirmed at the Mattel panel at the San Diego Comic Con this year.

Motoko Kusanagi with leather-like coat!

Fair warning, my obsession for Ghost in the Shell will probably shine through in Spin-Offs

Wave Treasure Motoko Kusanagi

Major Kusanagi immortalized in PVC by Wave. This 1/10 scale figures is comes with accessories (Hurray! Hat!). This figure is a part of Wave’s Treasure Figure Collection. Retails for Â¥4,800 ($40.00 USD) and is out in November.

Cutest Spider-Man toys EVER!

Spider-Man Capsule Toys

Pictures speak a thousand words and I screamed when my brother sent me the above image. They are from Yujin, a capsule toy company, and, of course, only available in Japan. Drop a mere ¥300 ($2.50 USD) into a vending machine and randomly get one of these fantastic round-headed Spider-Man figures. I swear, I live on the wrong continent.

I hope you enjoyed the first edition of Spin-offs. I’ll be back next week with some boy toys!

Oh my goodness those dogs are just beyond cute! I wish I had a small dog sometimes but then again not because they bark too much, like they have to prove themselves or something. You think they make something big enough for a 90 lb. boxer to wear? lol
