The Washington Post’s Express site has not one but two, count ‘em, two, profiles this week of recent notable releases from Fantagraphics. The first is a nice interview with Percy Gloom author Cathy Malkasian:
EXPRESS: The book deals with the idea of caution. Are you a very cautious person by nature?
MALKASIAN: Caution is not unfamiliar to me. There are, however, at least two different kinds of ordinary caution: a healthy sense of self-preservation and the cultural bombardment of manufactured fears. I try to cultivate the former while keeping a wary eye on the latter, but it’s hard work.
Next up is a chat with Paul Karasik, editor of the Fletcher Hanks anthology I Will Destroy All The Civilized Planets:
EXPRESS: When did you first encounter the work of Fletcher Hanks?
KARASIK: I was the associate editor of Raw magazine. In 1986 or something we reprinted a Fetcher Hanks story. Its bold, graphic and edgy sensibility fit right in with the cutting-edge aesthetic of Raw. After that, I didn’t think about his work for another 20 years or so. Then somebody sent me a link to these stories online and I started sniffing around on the Internet. In doing so I uncovered the truth behind the mystery of what happened to Fletcher Hanks.

I don’t mean to horn in on your act…but… if your readers are unfamilar with Hanks work they could slide over to the BONUS page of my website and check out a full-length slideshow of a Fantomah story that does NOT appear in my book! Enjoy!
